How do you like to start your morning?
Starting my day right has always been a priority for me, and I know many of you are looking for ways to create a morning routine that truly nourishes your soul and sets a positive tone. While there are countless ways to approach your mornings, I’ve found that incorporating a spiritual practice has made the most profound difference. It’s not just about what I do, but how I approach it with intention and a desire for growth. For anyone looking to deepen their spiritual walk or simply find more peace in their mornings, I highly recommend the SOAP method. It's a simple yet powerful tool for engaging with scripture and applying its wisdom to our daily lives. SOAP stands for Scripture, Observation, Application, and Prayer, and it’s how I often begin my day, much like the message in Mark 16:15, urging us to share good news. Here’s a quick breakdown of how I use it: Scripture: I start by reading a passage of scripture. I don't rush through it; I try to read it several times, letting the words truly sink in. Sometimes I'll focus on a verse like "Mark 16:15 EASY" and reflect on its immediate meaning. Observation: Next, I observe what stands out to me. What are the key themes? Are there any words or phrases that resonate? What is the context? This is where I really try to understand what the text is saying. Application: This is the practical part – how can I apply this scripture to my own life today? What changes do I need to make? What action can I take? This step makes the scripture relevant and personal. Prayer: Finally, I turn my observations and applications into a prayer. I pray for understanding, for strength to apply the truth, and for guidance throughout my day. This brings everything together in a conversation with God. Beyond this spiritual foundation, a truly effective morning routine involves a few other elements that can help you feel ready to tackle your day: Hydration & Nutrition: Before anything else, I drink a large glass of water. Our bodies wake up dehydrated, and it’s an easy way to kickstart your system. Then, I make sure to have a nourishing breakfast. Something simple, yet fulfilling, can make a huge difference in energy levels and focus. Movement: It doesn't have to be an intense workout, especially if you're not a morning person. Even 10-15 minutes of gentle stretching, a quick walk around the block, or some yoga poses can wake up your body, improve circulation, and boost your mood. I personally love a short walk to clear my head. Mindfulness or Reflection: Even if you're not using the SOAP method, taking a few moments for quiet reflection or meditation can be incredibly grounding. I find that journaling my thoughts or gratitude lists can also be a wonderful addition, helping me to set intentions for the day ahead. Planning My Day: Before diving into emails or social media, I take a few minutes to review my to-do list and prioritize tasks. This helps me feel organized and reduces that overwhelmed feeling that can sometimes creep in. I try to identify my top 3 priorities for the day. Building a morning routine is a personal journey, and it’s okay to start small. Don’t feel pressured to implement everything at once. Pick one or two things that resonate with you, like trying the guided scripture SOAP method, and gradually build from there. The goal is to create a consistent ritual that energizes you, brings you peace, and helps you start your day feeling centered and prepared for whatever comes your way. It truly is about finding what works best for you to cultivate a meaningful and productive start to each morning.
