Some of MY personal favorites while in Japan
Oh my goodness, you guys! My recent trip to Japan was an absolute dream, and I just have to share some of the incredible things I discovered – the real 'must-haves' that made my experience unforgettable! If you're planning a visit, especially a quick 'Weekend in Japan 2024' getaway like mine, you'll want to bookmark these tips. First off, the food scene is out of this world. You absolutely cannot go to Japan without indulging in some Wagyu beef. The melt-in-your-mouth tenderness, the rich flavor... it's an experience unlike any other. I tried it at a small, local spot in Tokyo, and it was pure culinary magic. Seriously, save up for this one – it's worth every penny! Next up, ramen noodles. Forget what you think you know about ramen; Japan takes it to a whole new level. Each region has its own specialty, but even simple bowls you find in Tokyo are bursting with flavor. I loved exploring different ramen shops, trying tonkotsu broth, and perfectly chewy noodles. It's the ultimate comfort food after a day of exploring. And for something sweet, you must try the soft-serve ice cream. Japan has such unique and delicious flavors beyond vanilla and chocolate. I found amazing matcha soft-serve, but also seasonal fruit flavors that were incredibly refreshing. Keep an eye out for interesting flavors at convenience stores and small cafes – they're often hidden gems! Speaking of matcha, even Starbucks in Japan offers unique matcha drinks you won't find anywhere else. It’s fun to see how they infuse local flavors into international brands. It’s a great way to grab a familiar-yet-different treat while sightseeing. Beyond the food, let's talk about Japan products to buy and other general 'must-haves.' When I think of souvenirs, I'm not just talking about trinkets. Japan has some incredible stationery – beautiful pens, notebooks, and stickers that are perfect for gifts or a treat for yourself. I also picked up some unique snacks, like regional Kit Kat flavors, which are always a hit. Another 'must-have' experience is simply exploring the bustling streets of Tokyo. From the neon lights of Shinjuku to the trendy vibes of Shibuya, there's always something new to see. Don't forget to visit some serene temples or gardens; they offer a beautiful contrast to the city's energy. Even using Japan's efficient public transport system is an experience in itself – so clean and punctual! For anyone planning a trip, my biggest 'must-have' advice is to embrace everything. Try new foods, wander down alleys, and talk to locals if you can. Japan is a country that truly captivates all your senses, and these favorite food finds and experiences are just the tip of the iceberg. I'm already dreaming of my next visit!
