What should I use to clean my lenses? ! !

I've had this pair of glasses for about 2 years now, and through regular wear and tear, the lenses have just gotten more and more scratched up over time. It's gotten to the point where the scratches are distracting and impacting my vision clarity.

I've tried using the standard microfiber cloths and lens sprays you can buy for cleaning glasses, but those don't seem to be cutting it with these deep grooves. The lenses still look hazy and marred no matter how much I wipe them down.

I'm really hoping there's some kind of DIY cleaning method or household product that can help buff out these scratches and restore my lenses to like-new condition. But I also don't want to use anything too abrasive that could potentially damage the lenses further.

Do any bespectacled folks out there have go-to techniques for really deep cleaning scratched up lenses? I've heard suggestions like using toothpaste, baking soda, or even furniture polish as gentle abrasives - but I'm not sure what's safe.

Or maybe there are certain types of cloths or pads that work better than the standard microfiber ones? I'm honestly a little clueless when it comes to proper lens care beyond just the basic cleaning sprays.

If anyone has personally had success reviving badly scratched lenses, I'm all ears! I'd really love to get these glasses looking clear and pristine again instead of replacing them. Any tips would be hugely appreciated!

... Read moreCleaning scratched lenses can be quite a challenge, but there are several effective methods you can try. One common DIY solution is to use baking soda mixed with water to create a paste. Apply it gently to the lens with a soft cloth, then rinse with lukewarm water and dry with a microfiber cloth. This method utilizes the gentle abrasive properties of baking soda, which can help to buff out minor scratches while being safe for most lens types. Another creative option is to use toothpaste, but it's crucial to choose a non-gel, non-abrasive type. Simply apply a small amount onto the lens and use a soft cloth to scrub in circular motions. Rinse thoroughly afterwards. Always be cautious, as overly abrasive products can worsen the condition of your lenses. If you're skeptical about DIY methods, consider specialized lens cleaning kits that include microfiber cloths and gentle cleaning solutions designed specifically for optical maintenance. Ensure the microfiber cloths are clean and free of debris to avoid causing more scratches during cleaning. Finally, regular maintenance is key; consider investing in protective coatings and hard cases for your glasses to minimize future scratches. When in doubt, consult with an optician for professional cleaning or advice on lens care. Protecting your vision is vital, and well-maintained lenses contribute significantly to that clarity and comfort.
