... Read moreHey everyone! So, my first Moving Day Video Journal, Episode 1, is officially out there! It's such a whirlwind, isn't it? When I decided to start this moving vlog series, I knew I wanted to capture all the realness – the excitement, the stress, and all the little moments in between. This first episode is just the beginning, but honestly, moving day itself is a marathon, not a sprint! I've learned so much already, even in just the lead-up to the big day. For anyone else planning their own move, whether it's across town or across the country, I wanted to share a few things I've found incredibly helpful. First off, packing strategically is a game-changer. I totally underestimated how much stuff I had until I started going through it all. My biggest tip? Declutter ruthlessly before you even buy a single box. If you haven't used it in a year, or it doesn't bring you joy (thanks, Marie Kondo!), it might be time to let it go. And when you do pack, label everything clearly! Not just "kitchen," but "kitchen - pots & pans" or "bedroom - winter clothes." Future you, amidst a sea of boxes, will thank past you! Second, creating a moving day essentials box is non-negotiable. This is a box you don't load onto the moving truck. It stays with you and has everything you'll need for the first 24-48 hours in your new place. Think toiletries, a change of clothes, basic snacks, chargers for your phone, important documents, and even a roll of toilet paper (you'd be surprised how often that's forgotten!). For my Moving Day Video Journal, I made sure to show what I packed in mine – it’s a lifesaver! Then there's the actual moving day itself. It’s chaotic, no two ways about it! My biggest piece of advice is to stay hydrated and nourished. It’s easy to forget to eat when you’re directing movers or lugging boxes, but you need your energy. I kept a cooler with water bottles, some granola bars, and a few sandwiches handy. And don't be afraid to ask for help! Whether it's friends, family, or professional movers, having an extra set of hands (or several!) makes a huge difference. One thing I really wanted to convey in my Moving Day Video Journal, Ep. 1, is the emotional rollercoaster. It's okay to feel sentimental about leaving your old place, and it's also okay to be incredibly excited for the new chapter. Embrace all the feelings! I found myself taking a few moments to just sit in empty rooms, soaking it all in before the trucks pulled away. Finally, remember that things might not go perfectly, and that's okay. There will be bumps in the road – a box might go missing temporarily, or something might take longer than expected. The key is to stay flexible and have a good sense of humor. What feels like a disaster in the moment often becomes a funny story later. I'm already anticipating some of those moments to share in future episodes of my video journal! This first Moving Day Vlog is just a peek, but I'm planning to share so much more as I settle in. What are your best moving day tips? Let me know in the comments – I’d love to hear them!
