... Read moreAfter successfully creating our beautiful paper Nativity scene, I realized how much more there is to these simple printables! It's not just about cutting and gluing; it's about bringing the Christmas story to life in a tangible way for our kids. Making Your Nativity Scene Last: Once you’ve printed out your templates, don’t just stop at cutting them out. To make your baby Jesus, Mary, Joseph, wise men, shepherds, and angel character figures more sturdy, try gluing them onto cardstock or even thin cardboard before cutting. This gives them a nice weight and durability, especially for little hands. For the wooden shed roof and fence/wall sections, you can fold the tabs and use a strong glue stick or even a tiny bit of hot glue (with adult supervision!) to keep them upright. I’ve found that using a clear sealant spray, once everything is assembled, can also protect the colors from fading and make them last for years – a wonderful keepsake! Bringing the Story to Life: Once your Nativity scene is complete with all its animals and characters, the real fun begins! Use your assembled scene as a visual aid while reading the Bible story of Jesus' birth. Let your children move the figures as you narrate, making it an interactive experience. You can even use them for a simple puppet show! We love placing our finished scene on a mantelpiece or a special table, creating a beautiful focal point for our Christmas decorations. More Fun Activities for Jesus' Birth: Beyond the craft, there are so many ways to deepen understanding. Try singing Christmas carols that tell the story, like 'Away in a Manger' or 'Silent Night,' pointing to the corresponding figures in your Nativity scene. Baking star-shaped cookies or even a 'stable cake' can be another sensory activity. You could also gather some hay or straw to make a cozy bed for your paper baby Jesus figure. These hands-on activities, combined with storytelling, truly help children grasp the meaning of Christmas beyond just presents. It’s a joy to see their eyes light up as they learn about the greatest gift of all!
