Meet Lady Marmalade 🐈

Introducing the newest member of our family, Lady Marmalade.

I’ve been wanting an orange cat for a LONG time and I kid you NOT every time I went on a walk in our neighborhood I would find an orange cat. Little did I know these same orange cats visit almost everyone who walks the neighborhood but to me; it was a sign. I was destined to have an orange 🍊 cat. I scoured the shelter for months and couldn’t find one. To be honest I first wanted one to look like Ed Sheeran 😂 I don’t know if y’all saw that viral video of the girl who got a kitten that legit looks like Ed, but it made my wanting an orange cat stronger 😂

I honestly had kinda given up or searching and made a joke on Facebook that none of my Christmas presents were meowing and a Facebook friend commented that they had an orange cat left from a litter and sent me a pic. I fell in love and drove 1 hour to get her sweet little self.

Crazy story about Marmalade; she was 1 of 5 kittens born and the mom legit neglected her. She took the other 4 kittens to a separate area and left this poor baby alone. By the grace of god, the family noticed it and tried to get the mom cat to nurse her and she refused, but they had a Great Pyrenees who had just also given birth to puppies, as a last ditch effort my friend tried to see if the mama dog would nurse the kitten and she DID. Marmalade was kept alive by a dogs milk until her rude cat mom allowed her back with the crew 😂 so basically she’s a miracle kitten.

Also fun fact, clearly I like talking about my cat, but only 20% of orange cats are female 🤯 all I know is we love her fluffy little soul and are so grateful to have her. Nelson is finally warming up to her after a few weeks 🐈

... Read moreFinding an orange cat like my Lady Marmalade truly feels like winning the pet lottery! You know, beyond the incredible story of her being nursed by a dog, there's just something magical about orange cats. Did you know that only about 20% of ginger cats are female? It makes our Lady Marmalade even more special! Many people say orange cats, often called 'marmalade' or 'ginger' cats, have unique personalities. They're often described as super friendly, outgoing, and sometimes a bit mischievous – true little conversationalists! We've certainly found that with our fluffy orange kitten. They tend to bond deeply with their families and bring so much joy and laughter into the home with their playful antics, just like our sweet Marmalade. If you're dreaming of bringing home your own marmalade kitten, get ready for an incredibly rewarding journey! My experience searching shelters and ultimately finding Marmalade through a friend taught me so much about patience and keeping an open heart. When you’re looking to adopt, some key things to consider are preparing your home beforehand. Make sure you have a cozy pet bed ready for your fluffy new family member to nap soundly and feel secure, just like Marmalade loves to do in her soft grey pet bed or even curled up sleeping soundly on the back of the couch! Stock up on essentials: quality kitten food, fresh water bowls, a clean litter box in a quiet spot, and plenty of stimulating toys to keep them entertained and encourage healthy play. The first vet visit is also crucial to ensure your kitten is healthy, gets all their necessary vaccinations, and to discuss microchipping and spaying/neutering. The joy of rescuing a pet is immense, and there are so many wonderful cats and kittens in shelters and rescue organizations waiting for their forever homes. Don't be discouraged if you don't find your perfect match right away – sometimes, like with Lady Marmalade, they come to you in the most unexpected ways and at the most perfect time! Online communities, local humane societies, and even social media groups can be fantastic resources for finding adoptable kittens. And speaking of names, 'Marmalade' perfectly suits an orange cat, doesn't it? Other popular names often draw inspiration from their vibrant fur, like Ginger, Sunny, Cheeto, Pumpkin, Rusty, or even Tiger. Whatever you choose, the love and companionship you'll share with your little companion will be truly special and unique. Caring for a fluffy kitten, especially one with a luscious coat like our little Marmalade, also means a bit of regular grooming. Gentle brushing helps to keep their fur healthy, shiny, and tangle-free, reducing shedding and preventing hairballs. It's not just about aesthetics; it's a great bonding experience too. It's all part of the wonderful adventure of cat parenthood, and every moment is worth it for these furry miracles!
