Must Have Breastfeeding Snacks
Breastfeeding takes it out of you; studies show an extra 500 calories a day is needing to help establish milk supply. Especially in the first weeks when you’re establishing your milk supply; you should be keeping those calories up from good, clean, nutrient dense foods. As much as I like to pretend I’m going to eat everything fresh and home made; the first months of motherhood are a free for all; so having good snacks on hand to munch on is key.
Here’s my top 4 favorites
Seven Sundays Nut Granola-
The raspberry chocolate is so dang good. You can eat this by the handful, with milk or top yogurt with it. I love that it’s versatile. It’s packed with tons of goodness; almonds, coconut, sunflower seeds, pecans, pumpkin seeds, flax seeds and more.
Built Puff Protein Bars-
The Puff bars are what I love most; I’m not really a fan of their normal protein bars so stick with the puffed ones. The insides are like a marshmallow consistency. They taste like dessert and give you 17g of protein. Winning 🥇
Purely Elizabeth Granola-
I prefer the grain free option; but all her granolas are awesome and delicious. Okay maybe not the banana nut bread one (pass on that 😂) but Granola is an easy way to boost those calories. Very nutrient dense option.
Epic Meat Bars-
These bars are my favorite meat bar/stick option. I feel like their flavor options are better than normal meat sticks. This Bacon Cranberry Bison is my favorite sweet and savory flavor. An easy grab and go item to keep in your diaper bag for protein throughout the day.
I have these all on a cart beside my rocking chair for nursing; that way it’s in sight for when the munchies hit! What’s your faves for breastfeeding???

Breastfeeding can be physically demanding, requiring an extra 500 calories daily to support milk production and energy levels. It’s essential to choose snacks that provide both nutrition and convenience. Consider options rich in healthy fats, proteins, and carbohydrates, which sustain your energy throughout the day. In addition to the recommended snacks, wholesome foods like avocado toast, protein smoothies, and veggie sticks with hummus can also be excellent choices. These snacks not only satisfy hunger but also offer essential nutrients that benefit both you and your baby. Keep them easily accessible for those busy days, whether at home or on-the-go. Moreover, hydration plays a vital role in successful breastfeeding. Pair your snacks with plenty of fluids like water, herbal teas, or electrolyte drinks to maintain hydration levels. Make a habit of having a drink nearby during nursing sessions. If you're looking for a structured approach to meal planning during breastfeeding, consider incorporating various food groups into your daily snacks. Mixing fruits, nuts, and grains can provide diverse nutrients, helping you stay energized and focused. Ultimately, listen to your body’s hunger cues and choose snacks that you genuinely enjoy. Engaging in meal prep can also make it easier to have your favorite snacks ready when you need them. Remember to celebrate this significant time in your life while nourishing yourself and your little one.
