Inktober Day 3 - Crown

It's amazing how much more freedom and flexibility digital tools offer, especially when you're trying to keep up with daily prompts like Inktober. For INKTOBER DAY 3, the prompt was CROWN. When I first heard it, my mind immediately went to all sorts of possibilities. Do I draw a grand, majestic crown? A simple, elegant one? Or perhaps something more fantastical? I wanted to create a perfect crown that felt both regal and unique. My process usually starts with looking at various inspirations – from historical royal crowns to illustrations in fantasy books and even video games. Thinking about the design, I focused on adding intricate details, like tiny gems and filigree, to give it that luxurious feel. Digital brushes make it so much easier to get those fine lines and sparkling highlights that really make a crown pop! One of the most interesting aspects of this piece, for me, was incorporating the idea of an "Awkward hand off." This subtle narrative element can truly elevate a simple object drawing into a story. Is the crown being reluctantly given? Is it a moment of transfer of power, or perhaps a stolen artifact? I tried to convey a sense of weight and perhaps a little uncertainty in how the crown is presented. This challenges me to think beyond just the object itself and consider the context and emotion surrounding it. It's like imagining a scene from a grand fantasy adventure, where a significant item changes hands. Drawing digitally on my iPad has allowed me to experiment with different metallic textures and glowing effects for the gems, which are crucial for a truly stunning crown.
