cram with me for my neurology quiz🧠🫠

↠ step 1: watching lectures 💻

• i really don't like watching them but i do go back and reference them if needed.

↠ step 2: binaural beats 🎧

• discovered this method back in my junior year of college and it helped me so much. ion even need coffee anymore to stay focused 😃

↠ step 3: reading the textbook 📖

• unusual but i prefer reading the book over watching recorded lectures. it gives me a depth explanation of my powerpoint slides because yk professors like to put 1 sentence and 5 pictures on the slide😭

↠ step 4/6: plug into chat gpt🤖

• also figured out this method in my junior yr. my immunology book was HELL and so difficult and confusing, i damn near put the whole book in chat gpt for EASY and SIMPLE basic language 🤣 i rm my professor created our exam and turns out we took the same exam as 1st year med students at UCLA🥲 i loved that class tho 🫶🏼

↠ step 5/final: "mini" break 🎮

• i swear i have the right intentions of taking breaks but sometimes i go over my time limit 😅 15 minutes turns into 30, and 30 turns into 1 hr. then when i realize i've taken my break too long, i hop right back in for like 30 mins and call it a day. i don't believe in pulling all nighters bc it literally doesn't work for me & not worth sacrificing my beauty sleep either.

... Read moreOkay, so you've got my core study flow down, but let's dive a little deeper into making those steps really count, especially for something as dense and intricate as neurology! It's one thing to read, but another to truly know and be able to apply it on a neurology quiz. First off, let's talk about active recall and spaced repetition – these are non-negotiable for mastering complex subjects. When I'm watching lectures or buried in my textbook, I actively convert information into questions. Instead of just re-reading paragraphs about, say, 'The retina' or 'receptive field overlap,' I'll pause and ask myself: 'What's the main function of the retina?' or 'How do receptive fields overlap, and why is that important?' Then, I try to answer it without looking. If I can't, that's my signal to review that specific section again. Digital flashcards (Anki is a lifesaver!) are fantastic for spaced repetition, bringing back challenging concepts like 'antagonistic center-surround receptive fields' right when I'm about to forget them. This method truly solidifies those detailed neurological pathways and functions in my long-term memory. Next, let's supercharge our ChatGPT usage. Beyond simply asking it to 'summarize paragraphs,' think of it as your personalized tutor. When faced with a particularly tricky concept, try these prompts: 'Explain [concept] in neuroanatomy using a simple analogy,' or 'Generate 5 multiple-choice questions on [topic] with explanations for each answer.' I've even used it to create mini-quizzes on specific areas like cranial nerves or spinal cord tracts. This helps you not just understand, but also anticipate the types of questions you might encounter on your actual neurology quiz, turning a passive tool into an active learning partner. And those 'mini-breaks'? They're more strategic than they seem! It's not just about stopping; it's about resetting. Sometimes I'll use those 15-30 minutes for a quick burst of light exercise, like stretching or a short walk, to get blood flowing and clear my head. Other times, I'll switch to a completely different, non-academic activity, like listening to a favorite song (maybe not binaural beats during the break!) or even a quick scroll through something inspiring, just to give my brain a mental vacation. The key is to return feeling refreshed, not more distracted. Remember, consistent, quality study sessions punctuated by effective breaks are far more productive than endless, fatigued cramming. And seriously, don't sacrifice your beauty sleep – it's when your brain consolidates all that hard-earned knowledge! Finally, for quiz day itself, try a 'brain dump' right before. Spend 5-10 minutes writing down every key concept, formula, or pathway you can recall. This isn't just a review; it offloads some of the mental pressure and often primes your brain for the questions ahead. Combine this with a good breakfast and some deep breathing exercises, and you’ll walk into that neurology quiz feeling prepared and confident, ready to show off all that incredible learning!
