IMOGEN, OBVIOUSLY || WLW Book Review

#bookwormsoflemon8 #lemon8challenge #booktok #bookrecommendations #wlwbooks

This book had me blushing with all the flirting! My Spotify audiobook credits ran out in the middle of me listening and I was SCRAMBLING to get more so I could listen to the rest!!

Imogen is by far my favorite WLW protagonist so far! I’ve read a good number of WUHLUHWUH books and this was so cute! Genuinely realistic gay panics etc etc! These characters felt real! Lots of good bi/pan reps too! I liked every character, except Gretchen.

Even though her motives were understandable as well. Well rounded characters for sure!!

... Read more“Imogen, Obviously” is a book that truly resonated with me, and honestly, it’s a standout in the WLW contemporary romance genre. What made it so captivating wasn't just the delightful flirting that had me blushing, but the sheer authenticity of the characters and their journeys. Becky Albertalli has a knack for writing relatable experiences, and “Imogen, Obviously” is no exception. The story follows Imogen, a young woman navigating her identity and relationships, particularly on a college campus, which provides a vibrant backdrop for self-discovery. One of the strongest aspects of this book is its profound queer representation. As someone who appreciates diverse stories, I found the portrayal of various queer identities, especially bi and pan representation, to be incredibly well-handled. It felt genuine, avoiding stereotypes and truly exploring what it means to come into your own. The “gay panics” mentioned in the original review are so real and make Imogen’s internal monologue and interactions feel incredibly personal and humorous. You genuinely feel like you're right there with her, experiencing every awkward, heartwarming, and sometimes confusing moment. Characters like Tessa also add layers to the dynamics, making the entire cast feel well-rounded and essential to Imogen's growth. The charm of “Imogen, Obviously” also lies in its perfectly paced narrative. From the moment Imogen arrives at college, the situations she finds herself in and the people she meets contribute to a powerful message about finding oneself and embracing who you truly are. It’s a book that doesn't shy away from the complexities of identity while still delivering a feel-good, heartwarming experience. The 8/10 rating I saw mentioned on the cover art feels spot on – it’s a highly enjoyable read that leaves a lasting impression. If you, like me, are constantly on the lookout for incredible WLW book recommendations, “Imogen, Obviously” should absolutely be at the top of your list. It’s more than just a romance; it’s a journey of self-acceptance and friendship. For those who enjoy stories about queer youth navigating college life, or simply appreciate well-developed characters and authentic representation, this book is a gem. I often browse for books that offer similar depth and emotional resonance, and titles that explore themes of self-discovery, identity, and inclusive relationships are always a win. Looking for more? Keep an eye out for authors who are celebrated for their queer YA and contemporary fiction. There's a growing wealth of stories out there that, much like “Imogen, Obviously,” celebrate love and identity in all its forms. Don't miss out on this beautifully written story that truly deserves all the hype!
