From personal experience, being a fan of BTS has been a real source of comfort and positivity, even when others may not understand or judge the music or culture. Sometimes friends or family might say things like "At your age, you shouldn't like that kind of music," or worry about "what people will say" and "talking behind your back." These comments can feel isolating, but embracing what makes you happy is vital for your mental well-being. It's important to acknowledge that music and fandoms like BTS can create a supportive community, offering strength and a sense of belonging. When I felt that I was "making a fool of myself" or "people would distance themselves," focusing on BTS’s messages of self-love and mental health awareness helped me reframe these negative thoughts. It’s empowering to be part of a group that encourages honesty about mental struggles and promotes acceptance. This contrasts with societal pressure to conform to expectations and hide vulnerabilities. Additionally, I found that openly discussing my mental health status, even the hard parts, reduces the shame and breaks down stigma. It allows for authentic connections and support from others who understand. Music becomes more than entertainment; it is a tool for healing and resilience. For anyone facing similar judgments, know that your feelings are valid, and embracing your individuality can improve your mental health journey significantly.
