Traveling Stories 🫶
Life has a funny way of teaching us lessons. Usually when something “happens” (and let’s be real, it’s almost always something bad), our first reaction is to throw our hands up and ask God, “Why me? Why my luck?” But honestly… why does it automatically have to mean bad?
The old me would’ve been mad—like really mad. I probably would’ve been pacing around, cussing under my breath, convinced the universe had it out for me. But this time? I wasn’t. Instead, I was kind of proud of myself. It hit me that I’ve grown a lot, and this was one of those moments where I could actually see it.
Here’s the deal:
we got a flat tire. Not just a little one—a giant screw went straight through it. Of course, my car didn’t come with a jack, a spare, or even one of those sad little repair kits. Nope. Nothing. To top it off, we had zero service, so there I was, spinning in circles trying to connect with a satellite just to text the people in front of us.
(Pro tip: apparently at the bottom of a mountain the satellite option does no justice.)
And you know those mountain roads? Nothing but twists and turns. (I’ve had smoother rides in a Walmart shopping cart with one bad wheel.) Everyone in front of us didn’t even notice we were gone, for about 10 miles, there was so many curves. But in that moment, all I could think was: God is talking to us today.
Slow down.
Look around.
There’s something here you’re supposed to see.
He wasn’t kidding. We stumbled across a river we hadn’t seen the whole trip. How did we forget to stop and look at some water? Sky was full of laughter and smiles when her Aunt’s took her down to check it out. I stood back just to admire the view. None of that would’ve happened if everything had gone “according to plan.”
Proverbs 16:9
“In their hearts humans plan their course, but the Lord establishes their steps.”
So here’s what I’m getting at:
we spend so much time being frustrated when life doesn’t go the way we think it should, when really… maybe it’s going exactly how it’s supposed to. Sometimes what feels like the “worst luck” is really God saving you from something worse—or giving you a chance to see something better.
So, as always, I’m choosing to love life. Even when it’s messy and inconvenient. Because at the end of the day, life might throw flat tires at you, but you know who never leaves you stranded?
God. ♥️
