🧱 July Theme: Rebuild From the Inside Out
I started reading the book of Nehemiah this morning, and something stood out immediately.
Nehemiah begins in the month of Kislev (the Hebrew month that usually falls in November–December), but we’re currently in Tammuz (the Hebrew month that usually falls in June–July).
Historically, they’re different months, but the themes fit together beautifully.
✨ Tammuz reminds us to examine our hearts, remain faithful to God, and guard against spiritual compromise.
✨ Nehemiah reminds us that rebuilding begins with prayer before action.
Before Nehemiah rebuilt the walls of Jerusalem, he humbled himself, fasted, prayed, confessed sin, and sought God’s direction.
That challenged me.
Sometimes I’m so focused on rebuilding my health, my finances, my home, or my routines that I forget God wants to rebuild me first.
This is my prayer for July:
“Lord, before You rebuild anything around me, rebuild what is within me. Search my heart, strengthen my faith, and help me stay faithful in the small things.”
📖 July Focus: Read Nehemiah alongside one Psalm each day.
Reflection Question: What area of your life are you inviting God to rebuild this month?

Reflecting on the process of rebuilding from within has been a deeply personal journey for me, especially as I contemplate the lessons from Nehemiah and Psalm 139. It’s easy to become focused on outward improvements—whether health, finances, or environment—but true and lasting change begins with spiritual renewal and self-examination. Psalm 139:23-24 invites us to ask God to "search me, know my anxious thoughts, and lead me in the way everlasting." This verse has become a daily prayer for me, reminding me to be honest with God about my struggles and the hidden areas of my heart that need healing. Rebuilding isn’t just about fixing what’s broken in our lives externally; it’s about allowing God to gently examine and rebuild our hearts, preparing us for the challenges ahead. Guarding against compromise is another vital practice I’ve embraced through this reflection. Like Nehemiah, who took time to fast and pray before action, I’ve learned to protect my mind and heart from distractions and influences that might weaken my faith. Staying close to God in both big decisions and small daily actions fosters resilience and clarity. One practical step I’ve taken is journaling daily reflections alongside reading Nehemiah and a Psalm each day. This has helped me track my spiritual growth and remain focused on areas where I need to surrender control and seek God’s direction. Each day becomes a commitment to align my heart with God’s will before attempting to rebuild any external aspect of my life. This inside-out approach has also encouraged me to cultivate patience and faithfulness in small things, trusting that God’s timing is perfect. It’s a continual reminder that foundational spiritual work is essential for any lasting rebuilding—because a heart aligned with God is indeed the foundation for every wall He calls us to restore or build anew.
