Read moreStarting a nursing career is an exciting yet nerve-wracking adventure, and it’s completely natural to feel anxious at each milestone—from beginning nursing school to taking your NCLEX, entering clinicals, and landing that dream pediatric job. I remember how overwhelming it was to start clinical rotations; you want to do everything right but also feel unsure of your skills. What helped me was embracing vulnerability and recognizing that every experienced nurse once felt the same jitters. When preparing for the NCLEX, I found creating personalized drug guides and revisiting the fundamentals of nursing invaluable. It broke down the massive amount of information into manageable pieces and boosted my confidence. Surrounding myself with a supportive community of fellow nursing students and seasoned nurses also made a huge difference—they shared practical tips and reassured me that nervousness is part of the learning process. Starting college or a new job can feel intimidating, but keeping a growth mindset helps. Each step is a building block, and patience with yourself is key. For instance, when I began my medsurg nursing role, I focused on small daily goals rather than trying to master everything immediately. Over time, those small wins added up. Remember, it's okay to be nervous—that's a sign you care deeply about your work and growth. By embracing these feelings, you open the door to learning, resilience, and ultimately becoming the compassionate, skilled nurse you aspire to be.
