Snowed In: Historical Romance Edition
It is deepest darkest January and I am starting to get a bit….tired of winter. It was frigid all last week and the magic of the season is, let’s be real, threadbare at this point. BUT snow is still magical no matter what and so in an attempt to get myself to feel better about winter, I bring you SNOWED IN: HISTORICAL ROMANCE EDITION. Did I use “historical romance edition” because I didn’t want to use “in” twice in my post title (usually I say “in historical romance”)? Yes. Am I using historical romance to combat my seasonal malaise? Also yes.
Because if there is one thing I love about winter it’s a snowed in romance moment 💕❄️. They always make me think of the snow moment in Austen’s Emma, where everyone freaks out about a half inch of snow and leave the function to avoid getting trapped. Apparently their fear was somewhat justified because there had been in the years before 1815 lots of snow in England and it messed everything up. In a time before modern plows, a ton of snow was a huge problem, especially for a country unequipped to deal (it usually doesn’t snow THAT much in England). Regardless of this historical reality, a snowed in moment has snow day vibes and I’m all for it.
