BEAUTY IS IN THE EYES OF THE BEHOLDER. IT'S VARIES ACROSS CULTURES.
Having traveled to several countries and interacted with people from diverse backgrounds, I have personally witnessed how beauty standards can dramatically differ depending on cultural context. In some Asian cultures, for instance, fair and flawless skin is often prized as a sign of elegance and social status, while in many African and Caribbean societies, a fuller figure is celebrated as a symbol of health and vitality. Western culture frequently emphasizes youthfulness, symmetrical facial features, and slender bodies, but even within the West, trends and ideals can shift over time. What struck me most was how cultural upbringing shapes one’s definition of attractiveness—not just physical traits, but also behaviors, grooming, and fashion choices. Beyond physical appearance, some cultures place a strong emphasis on inner beauty, kindness, or unique talents as part of their beauty ethos. This reminds me that beauty truly resides in the eyes of the beholder, influenced heavily by the norms and values people grow up with. Reflecting on these experiences made me appreciate the rich diversity of beauty worldwide and how embracing different perspectives can broaden our appreciation for human uniqueness. Understanding the cultural variations in beauty helps foster greater respect and reduces stereotypes, especially in today’s globalized society where cross-cultural interactions are increasingly common.
