MY LASIK EXPERIENCE — IS IT WORTH IT?

For YEARS, I was scared stiff about doing LASIK. My eyes mean everything to me — I was terrified something could go wrong, especially the thought of losing my vision. But living with dry, uncomfortable contact lenses and glasses that I hated wearing (and honestly, how I looked in them) was getting unbearable.

After contemplating for 5 years, I finally took the leap with the SMILE Pro laser vision correction at Clearvision, done by Dr Tony Ho. Here’s my full experience and why I think it’s worth every cent of the $5,388 price tag 💸💸💸

✦ Preparation

About 3 months before my surgery, I went for a LASIK suitability evaluation at Clearvision. The tests took around 1 to 2 hours and cost $55. (The results are valid for approximately 3 months, so you’ll want to schedule your surgery within that time.)

Before the surgery, I had to stop wearing contact lenses for at least 3 days (I recommend 5 days if you can, to avoid dryness) and remove my eyelash extensions for safety. I was also given a fixation target to practice focusing on 3 days before the surgery, which helped me prepare for the procedure.

✦ Surgery Day

The day was nerve-wracking but the surgery itself was pretty simple and quick — all I had to do was focus on the fixation target during the laser part. The procedure took about 15 minutes for both eyes, and although I experienced brief temporary blindness in one eye at a time, the doctors and nurses were very reassuring throughout.

A weird thing you should know: you might experience temporary blindness in one eye at a time during the procedure. It was scary, but only lasted briefly. The eye drops numbed my eyes well, so it wasn’t painful at all.

✦ Recovery

My vision was clear the SAME day, which blew my mind. On day 1 post-surgery, my eyes felt sensitive but not painful. I bounced back quickly and was already feeling great by day 2.

Now, I wear my UV-protected sunglasses outdoors to protect my healing eyes. The first set of medications and eye drops were included in the package, but subsequent eye drops will cost about $8-$20 each, adding up to around $250-$300 for the entire recovery period.

✧ Why I Chose SMILE Pro Over TransPRK

Initially, I wanted TransPRK because it’s flapless and incision-free — something that felt safer to me. But TransPRK has a much longer recovery time, sometimes weeks to months. SMILE Pro is also minimally invasive and flapless but offers a much faster recovery. It’s ideal for myopia and mild astigmatism, which was perfect for my prescription.

✧ Why It Was Worth It

Honestly, this is the best decision I’ve ever made. ◝(ᵔᗜᵔ)◜ No more dry contact lenses, no more glasses irritating my face or messing with my look, and I can see clearly without any hassle. If you’ve been on the fence like me, seriously consider getting a consultation and see if you’re eligible.

LASIK isn’t just a cosmetic thing — it’s a lifestyle upgrade. I’m so grateful to Clearvision and Dr Tony Ho for helping me regain clear vision and confidence. ◡̈

... Read moreI want to share some practical tips for anyone considering SMILE Pro or similar laser eye surgeries at Clearvision or elsewhere. Firstly, the initial suitability evaluation is essential—it determines if you’re a good candidate and helps set realistic expectations. In my case, the $55 test involved comprehensive eye checks and lasted about 1-2 hours. Remember, these results are valid for three months, so plan your surgery within that timeframe. Preparation also matters a lot. I stopped wearing contact lenses for 5 days before surgery to avoid dryness, which made the procedure smoother. Removing eyelash extensions was an unexpected but necessary step for safety. I also found practicing focusing on the fixation target beforehand helped me stay calm during surgery. On surgery day, the procedure took roughly 15 minutes for both eyes. Some people worry about temporary blindness in one eye during treatment—but knowing this beforehand helped me stay composed. The numbing eye drops meant I felt no pain at all. Post-op care is important too. Clearvision’s package includes medications and UV sunglasses, but additional eye drops cost around $8-$20 each, totaling $250-$300 across recovery. I always wore sunglasses outdoors to protect my healing eyes and avoided strenuous activities for a few days. Regarding alternatives, I initially considered TransPRK, which is flapless and incision-free. However, SMILE Pro’s quicker recovery and minimal invasiveness suited my lifestyle better as it’s ideal for myopia and mild astigmatism. Finally, the biggest benefit for me was regaining freedom from glasses and dry contacts—something I never thought possible after years of discomfort. If you’re weighing the cost, think of it as an upgrade to your daily quality of life. DM me if you want to hear more about my journey or have questions!
