... Read moreHey everyone! I'm so excited to dive deeper into my updated 90s blowout routine because I know so many of you are looking to achieve that iconic, voluminous look. When I first started trying to recreate this style, I faced a lot of trial and error, but after countless attempts, I’ve finally landed on a method that works wonders for my hair, and I think it will for yours too! Why the 90s Blowout is a Game-Changer for Women Today For me, the 90s blowout isn't just a trend; it's a timeless style that brings incredible confidence. It's chic, sophisticated, and gives your hair so much life. It's perfect for anyone wanting a polished yet effortless vibe, whether you're heading to a special event or just want to feel fabulous on a Tuesday. The beauty of this look is how it frames the face and adds that coveted bouncy movement. It's truly a style that makes you feel put-together without looking overly "done." My Essential Tools & Products (and why I love them!) To do a proper 90s blowout, having the right tools makes all the difference. I swear by my BaBylissPRO curling iron for setting the curls just right, and an Olivia Garden round brush is non-negotiable for achieving that smooth, voluminous base. As for products, I always start with a good heat protectant – L'Oréal Paris has some amazing options that don't weigh my hair down. Then, I layer in a volumizing mousse at the roots and a smoothing balm through the mid-lengths and ends before I even pick up the hairdryer. This cocktail of products helps create the foundation for lasting volume and shine. Mastering the Blowout: Tips for Short Hair & Beyond One of the most common questions I get is about how to achieve a great blow out if you have short hair. And let me tell you, it's absolutely doable! The key is working in smaller sections. For shorter layers, I use a smaller round brush (think 1.5 inches) to really get under the root and lift. Don't be afraid to over-direct the hair – meaning, pull it up and away from your face as you dry – to maximize volume. For longer sections, a larger round brush (2-2.5 inches) works best to create those soft, sweeping waves. Here’s my personal routine: Prep: After washing, gently towel-dry your hair until it's about 70-80% dry. Apply your heat protectant and volumizing mousse evenly. Rough Dry: Use your hairdryer on a medium setting to rough dry your hair until it's slightly damp. This saves time and minimizes heat damage. Sectioning is Key: Divide your hair into manageable sections. I usually start with the bottom layers and work my way up, clipping the rest out of the way. Round Brush Technique: Take a section, place your round brush at the root, and apply tension as you dry, rolling the brush down to the ends. Once dry, curl the section around the brush, hit it with a blast of cool air to set, and then gently unroll. Curling Iron for Refinement: This is where the BaBylissPRO comes in! Once each section is blown out, I take that same section and quickly wrap it around a large barrel curling iron (usually 1.5 inches), curling away from my face. Don't hold it for too long, just enough to add a polished curl. Pin these curls up to cool completely. The Grand Reveal: Once all sections are cooled (this is crucial for longevity!), unpin them. Gently brush through with a wide-tooth comb or your fingers to meld the curls into a cohesive, bouncy 90s haircut women dream. A light hold hairspray finishes the look. Making Your Blowout Last All Day (and Night!) I've learned that touching your hair too much is the enemy of a fresh blowout! Once it's styled, try to resist running your fingers through it constantly. In between washes, a good dry shampoo at the roots can refresh and add volume. Sleeping on a silk pillowcase also works wonders to prevent frizz and preserve your style. With these tips, you'll be rocking that gorgeous, bouncy blowout for days!
