My favorite bookstore

2025/2/13 Edited to

... Read moreOkay, so I just have to talk about Powell's Books in Portland, Oregon. It's not just a bookstore; it's an entire experience, a destination for anyone who loves getting lost in pages. From the moment you step through that glass door and see the iconic red 'POWELL'S BOOKS' sign, you know you're in for something special. It truly feels like a world of its own, a literary haven right in the heart of Portland. What first struck me was the sheer scale of the place. It's massive! You're greeted by what feels like endless aisles, each lined with incredibly tall wooden bookshelves that reach up to the ceiling. They're literally packed to the brim with books of every genre imaginable. I saw everything from popular young adult series like 'Shadow and Bone' and 'The Inheritance Games' to thrilling fantasy novels and classic literature. It’s amazing how well-organized everything is, with clear sections marked by letters like 'D', 'C', 'J', 'K', 'L', 'H', and 'G' – it really helps you navigate this book lover's labyrinth, though sometimes I just enjoy wandering and letting serendipity guide me! I always find myself gravitating towards the young adult and fantasy sections; they have such an incredible selection there, including titles like 'Killer Instinct' that I've been meaning to read. You could literally spend hours just browsing, pulling out books, and discovering new authors or revisiting old favorites. There are even little step stools scattered throughout the concrete aisles, which are super helpful for reaching those top shelves and finding those hidden gems. It’s clear they've thought of everything to make the browsing experience comfortable, even in such a vast space. Beyond the books, there's a real buzz about the place. It's always bustling, full of fellow bookworms exploring, chatting, and finding their next great read. The atmosphere is just so welcoming and cozy, despite its size. There's a certain magic in being surrounded by so many stories, both new and used, all under one roof. You might even find some unique merchandise or gifts tucked away on some shelves, making it a great spot for more than just books. It's the kind of place where you can easily lose track of time, forget the outside world, and just immerse yourself in the magic of stories. Every visit feels like a little adventure. If you're ever in Portland, Oregon, making a trip to Powell's Books is an absolute must. It’s more than just buying books; it’s about the joy of discovery, the comforting smell of old and new pages, and the feeling of being surrounded by countless stories waiting to be told. It truly is my favorite bookstore, and I hope you get to experience its unique magic too. Seriously, add it to your travel list – you won't regret it!
