How acne affected my experience with love

first n foremost just want to give a disclaimer that this is entirely my own experience and its not the same for everyone who is on their dating journey!

where do i EVEN START

so of course in SG, we have a certain standard to upkeep (as women) to have good skin and healthy body would be a benchmark set by us as a society.

my skin was always filled with pus and flare ups, so even when i was wearing makeup, it would show through texture and redness. (Im not very good at makeup)

so during my time when i was on dating apps, i was ghosted a few times after a first date because of my skin (they didnt want to say it but its pretty obvious when they asked if i was going to do anything about my acne)

there was this incident where i recall a man treating me extremely horribly (like he was downright being a nasty person on our date) yet because of my self esteem, i let it happen and i went on MULTIPLE dates with him after to seek validation (ew)

i really had no standards and often just acted as a punching bag or next level people pleaser just so they would show interest in me and i will feel that i wasnt ugly.

it was a really dark time in my life and i am just so grateful to have found my (now) bf who loves and cherishes me unconditionally, even during my flareups he would buy me ice cream and is such an amazing pillar of support.

im so thankful for him and now that im recovering, all i want to do is show him how much he has impacted my life and made it so much better.

i just wished i could go back in time and tell myself that having acne doesnt take away my worth and that someone who truly loves and care for you will look past all that superficial imperfections and make you love yourself even more!
