Date idea - DIY your own preserved flower bouquet

For girls who love receiving flowers from their partner, you need to consider this date idea that is more meaningful and (possibly more affordable) than buying a ready-made bouquet from a physical store.

For our 1st anniversary, my boyfriend surprised me and brought me to a preserved flower shop called Lee Flora. He told me to pick out our favourite flowers individually and we would be bringing it home to create a bouquet for each other. Honestly I loved the idea right away! Because I could get a flower bouquet from him and it was so much more meaningful than just buying one off the shelves.

This flower shop has an incredible range of preserved flowers, and there were so many hydrangeas hanging from the ceiling which is also my favorite flower! I was honestly a little overwhelmed trying to decide which side flowers would pair well with them.

We each picked our own favourite main flower, and made a collective decision for the rest since the flowers could be shared between both bouquet designs. My boyfriend spent about $70+ in total excluding other materials such as rope and wrapping paper.

After the shopping spree, we headed back to start on the bouquet! I recommend trimming some of the stalks so that it’s not too long. It was a really therapeutic and fun session as we get to mix and match different flowers together. For the wrapping part, I wasn’t really sure so I googled for the steps and it turned out pretty decent!

So guys… if you’re reading this and thinking “my girlfriend would love this,” take it as your sign to add this to your next date idea list.

It doesn’t have to be for a birthday or special celebration either, it’s perfect for any casual date day when you just want to do something fun and different together.

I’ve found that choosing the flowers together encourages meaningful conversation and lets each person express their taste and personality. Preserved flowers, unlike fresh flowers, last for months or even years, making the bouquet a lasting reminder of your shared memories. When we made our bouquet, I learned a few handy tricks that greatly improved the experience. First, bringing along a small pair of good-quality scissors or floral shears helped in neatly trimming the stems to the perfect length. It’s also useful to prepare a workspace with a protective covering since some preserved flowers can leave a slight residue. I recommend mixing different textures and colors—hydrangeas are stunning as a base, but adding smaller filler flowers or greenery can make the bouquet more dynamic and visually appealing. Take your time arranging each piece; this process is as much about enjoying each other’s company as it is about the final product. For wrapping, kraft paper combined with delicate ribbons gives a charming rustic look. If you’re unsure, many online tutorials provide step-by-step guidance on creating elegant wraps that match your bouquet style. Overall, this DIY date idea turned into a memorable, fun, and thoughtful experience that strengthened our relationship. It’s perfect not only for anniversaries or birthdays but also as a spontaneous way to celebrate your bond. I highly encourage couples to try making preserved flower bouquets together—it’s a gift and a keepsake that truly lasts.
