DIY Embroidered Deer Antler Beanie

Hey 👋

If you are looking for an easy craft idea, these have been one of my favorite DIY’s to do. They make great gifts for birthdays, Christmas or for you to just keep for yourself!

I threw this together pretty quick so I hope it makes sense!

Steps:

1. Get your embroidery stabilizer and trace the edge of the Carhartt logo. This allows you to know how far the antlers need to be spaced

2. Draw on your antlers. I went on Pinterest and looked up a drawing of antlers for reference

3. Place your stabilizer back onto the beanie and secure I’d down with safety pins. This keeps the stabilizer from moving around

4. Pick out your thread color

5. Cut off about two foot of thread

6. There are 6 smaller threads within the big one. We only need two!

7. Thread the two through the needle and make a knot at the end

8. Staring from the back of the design, come up and through the front of the beanie

9. Then make your way with the needle back through. Just a simple over and under motion

10. Not repeat that motion over and over!

11. Just follow your design…

12. And before you know it your antler is complete!

13. Cut the thread closest to the needle

14. Snip off the excess stabilizer and dab it with water to make it dissolve

15. You have completed half of the antlers, now repeat on the other side!

If you have any questions, leave a comment and I’ll be glad to help :)

I know when I first started exploring hobbies, I was constantly searching for 'beginner crochet projects' or 'easy craft ideas for beginners.' While crochet is fantastic, I quickly discovered that hand embroidery, especially on something practical like a Carhartt beanie, is incredibly rewarding and just as beginner-friendly! This DIY embroidered antler beanie project is honestly one of my favorite quick crafts. It’s not just about making something beautiful; it’s about the satisfaction of creating a custom piece with your own hands. You don't need a huge stash of expensive tools or years of practice. All you really need are a few basic supplies – like an embroidery stabilizer, some brown thread, a washable marker, and of course, your cozy Carhartt beanie – and a little patience. What I love about starting with a beanie, especially for someone who might be looking for 'easy things to crochet for beginners' but is open to other fiber arts, is that it’s a small, manageable canvas. You can master a simple stitch – like the backstitch I used for the deer antlers – without feeling overwhelmed. Plus, the outcome is so practical! You get a unique accessory for yourself or a truly thoughtful handmade gift for friends and family. Imagine gifting a 'beginner-friendly embroidered beanie' for Christmas or a birthday; it shows you put so much love into it. Beyond the classic deer antlers, the possibilities for personalizing your Carhartt beanie are endless! You could embroider initials, small floral designs, tiny animals, or even abstract patterns. Pinterest, as mentioned in the original guide, is a goldmine for 'beanie embroidery ideas.' I often find myself scrolling through it for inspiration. Don't be afraid to experiment with different thread colors too, beyond just brown thread. A vibrant pop of color can really make your design stand out. A common question I had when I started was, 'How do I take care of my embroidered creations?' It's actually quite simple. For your newly embroidered Carhartt beanie, I recommend hand washing in cold water with a mild detergent and laying it flat to dry. This helps protect your beautiful stitching and keeps the beanie in shape. Avoid harsh scrubbing or machine washing if you want your delicate embroidered deer antlers to last. This project truly demystifies embroidery, making it accessible even if you thought it was too complicated. If you've been searching for 'what to crochet for beginners' because you want a quick win, give this embroidery project a try! It gives you that same sense of accomplishment, often even faster. The technique of tracing your design onto an embroidery stabilizer with a washable marker makes it foolproof. You literally just 'color' in your lines with thread. Learning this simple hand embroidery skill also opens up a world of other DIY projects. You could personalize denim jackets, tote bags, t-shirts, or even tea towels. It's a versatile skill that builds confidence for more intricate crafts down the line. So, if you're ready for an 'easy craft project' that delivers big on style and satisfaction, grabbing a needle and thread for your beanie might just be your next favorite hobby!
