Pregnancy Symptoms I've Experienced

Everyone knows about the first trimester exhaustion/"morning" sickness, but there are so many more bizarre changes that can happen! Did you know your blood volume increases by 50% when you're pregnant? This can cause a lot of weird symptoms like heart palpitations, lightheadedness, dizziness, getting winded easier, vasodilation, and much more! It's always better to be safe than sorry, and it's important to communicate any symptoms you are worried about with your OB/midwife.

... Read morePregnancy brings numerous physical changes, many of which are surprising. In addition to typical symptoms like morning sickness and fatigue, it’s crucial to be aware of less common experiences that can occur during this period. For instance, some women may experience bleeding gums or extremely dry skin, which can be alarming if they're unaware that these are linked to pregnancy. Heart palpitations and lightheadedness are also noteworthy changes; these occur due to increased blood volume as the body works harder to support both the mother and the growing baby. Other symptoms can include constipation, joint pain, and a heightened sense of smell, influencing food preferences and aversions. Sciatica is another symptom that many expectant mothers encounter, causing discomfort in the lower back and legs due to pressure on the sciatic nerve. It is important for pregnant individuals to track all symptoms and communicate openly with their OB or midwife, especially when discomfort arises. Furthermore, knowing what to expect can help mothers manage anxiety about their changing bodies, making prenatal check-ups more productive and insightful. It is always advisable to ask questions and seek advice regarding any unusual or concerning symptoms to ensure a healthy pregnancy.
