Give me tips on how to grow my nails!!!

I used to wear acrylics very often and the last time I wore them was Valentine's Day. If I didn't have acrylics on I would have press/glue on nails. Since the last time having acrylics I decided I wanted to grow my nails out. I have looked up some tips and most of them say:

-round out your nails

-don't soak them in water

-have a top coat on or something to protect them

-apply cuticle oil every night before bed

I have been using the Sally Hansen nail shield and the I-On nail hardener and then a top coat and I recently painted them pink (don't mind the paint job, it was dark.) I have brittle nails and they are very weak. I don't bite my nails but if it is uneven or I feel a hangnail, I will pick at it.

I am currently a waitress so I wash my hands a lot and am always using my hands for everything. I switch between those three cuticle oils and I use them almost every night. I try to use them every night but it's hard to remember.

If you guys have any tips that could help. Please let me know because I'm struggling. I also know it takes time but I'm impatient.

... Read moreIt sounds like you're on a similar nail growth journey to mine after acrylics – it can be so frustrating when your nails feel brittle and just won't grow! I totally get the struggle, especially when you're washing your hands constantly like a waitress. It's a real challenge to keep them strong and healthy, but with a few extra steps and a lot of consistency, you absolutely can see a difference. Beyond the excellent tips you've already found, like rounding your nails and using a top coat, let me share some more insights I've learned that truly helped my nails go from flimsy to fabulous. 1. The Power of Protection (Beyond Just a Top Coat): You're right about protecting your nails, but it goes deeper. For someone who washes hands frequently, wearing gloves for dishwashing or cleaning is a game-changer. Nitrile or cotton-lined rubber gloves shield your nails from excessive water exposure and harsh detergents, which are notorious for drying out and weakening nails. Think of them as a barrier that keeps all those good oils you're applying in and the damaging elements *out*. 2. Deep Dive into Cuticle Care: You're already using cuticle oil, which is fantastic! I also rotate between a few I love, including a Sally Hansen Vitamin E oil and an Ecco Pure cuticle oil pen – they're so convenient. But let's talk about how to maximize its benefits. Don't just apply it; gently massage it into your cuticles and the nail plate. This not only nourishes but also stimulates blood flow to the nail matrix, where growth begins. Try to do this multiple times a day, especially after washing your hands. I even keep a small pen in my apron pocket! Resist the urge to cut your cuticles; instead, gently push them back after a shower. 3. Strategic Nail Hardener Application: You mentioned using Sally Hansen nail shield and I-On nail hardener. These are great choices! I've had success with Sally Hansen Advanced Hard As Nails Strengthener myself. For optimal results, apply hardeners as directed, usually a thin layer every other day, removing all layers once a week. Be careful not to overuse them, as some can make nails too rigid and prone to snapping. It's a delicate balance; if your nails are very brittle, consider a protein-based strengthener. 4. Filing Smarter, Not Just Rounder: You're rounding your nails, which is good for preventing snags. But also focus on how you file. Always file in one direction, from the side to the center, rather than a sawing motion. This prevents splitting and peeling. Use a fine-grit glass file, which is gentler on the nail edge than traditional emery boards. Short, soft strokes are key! 5. Nourish From Within: While topical treatments are crucial, what you put into your body matters just as much. Ensure your diet is rich in biotin, zinc, iron, and protein. Think leafy greens, nuts, seeds, lean meats, and eggs. Staying well-hydrated by drinking plenty of water also contributes significantly to overall nail health and flexibility, preventing brittleness. I noticed a huge difference when I started taking a daily biotin supplement and drinking more water, alongside my external routine. 6. Break the Picking Habit Gently: I understand the picking habit – it’s so hard to stop! When you feel the urge to pick at an uneven nail or hangnail, immediately reach for a nail file to smooth it down, or apply more cuticle oil. Keeping your nails polished, even with just a clear coat, can also create a barrier that makes picking less satisfying. Small, consistent efforts here make a huge difference in allowing your nails to grow undisturbed. Growing strong, healthy nails takes patience and a consistent routine, but seeing your natural nails thrive after weeks of dedication is incredibly rewarding. Keep at it, and you'll get there!

it looks like you’re using products that will help, quite honestly i’d just keep painting them if i were you. use a base coat, colored polish, and top coat. continue using the treatments you have & eventually they will strengthen & go back to normal or better.
