Struggling… See Description :/
So I’ve been living in my apartment for the past almost year or so, and my lease began on August 26 for a rent of 795$. It’s a 1 bd, 1 bth with no laundry hookups, no dishwasher and minimal repairs at best. There’s holes and paint mistakes everywhere that the property management company have been trying to get the owner to fix but he refuses to come out and do it. It’s definitely rough at times but I figured that for that price it was worth it. 😅
Now, however, they’re wanting to raise the rent by 50$ a month and still haven’t gotten back about doing any repairs to the place whatsoever. According to the owner it’s so he can “match market value” but he won’t make it a market value worthy home. Given the fact that I snagged the place after it had to be lowered 300$ on rent, I DOUBT this will work out for them. 💀
So now, my best option is to move in with my mom since I have more going on price wise with new doctors and such, and I can’t justify spending that money without anything being repaired. Am I stupid for this? I have a boyfriend but it is WAY too early to move in together, and no one else my age is willing to move out from their parents houses. Fair enough 🫠
Comment down below, I would love any support/advice yall have to give. And thank you so much for blowing up those last few posts! Goodnight all! 🧡

Navigating the challenges of renting can be daunting, especially with rising costs and insufficient maintenance. Many renters find themselves questioning the fairness of rent increases when their living conditions are subpar. If your landlord is unwilling to address necessary repairs, consider documenting these issues for future reference in case of disputes. Additionally, it's crucial to stay informed about local rental laws, which may protect you against unreasonable rent increases. Exploring options such as negotiating with your landlord can sometimes yield positive results, or seeking advice from tenant advocacy groups can provide additional support. Many renters have also found that seeking a roommate can help offset financial burdens in a particularly challenging rental market. Furthermore, as a long-term solution, evaluating potential new apartments or homes that fit your budget and repair expectations might be worth considering. Sharing your experience may help others in the community facing similar situations, promoting advice and solidarity amid the rental struggles.

When is your current lease up? If it doesn't end until August 26th, check your state laws about increasing rent during a current lease. I know for my state, they cannot increase rent during a lease, it has to be after.
