Most runners don’t waste workouts because they’re not trying hard enough…👇

They waste them because they’re not training with purpose.

Effort without direction doesn’t lead to improvement.

Execution does.

The quickest way to stop wasting your workouts is by fixing how you approach each rep.

Here’s what that looks like 👇

1️⃣ Know the goal before you start

Is it speed? Threshold? Recovery?

If you don’t know the purpose, you can’t execute it correctly.

2️⃣ Stop racing your workouts

Every rep doesn’t need to be all-out.

Run the pace you’re supposed to run—not the pace your ego wants.

3️⃣ Treat recovery like part of the workout

Your jog/rest between reps matters.

Too fast = you ruin the next rep.

Too slow = you lose the stimulus.

Great runners don’t just work hard.

They work with intention.

Fix that…

and every workout starts to count.

... Read moreFrom my experience as a runner, the biggest transformation in my training came when I shifted from just running hard to running with intention and clear goals. Early on, I used to sprint every rep as fast as possible, thinking that more effort meant better results. However, I soon realized that this approach often left me exhausted and with minimal improvement because I wasn’t allowing my body to recover properly between reps. Understanding the specific goal of each workout—whether it's improving speed, increasing threshold, or focusing on recovery—changed how I approached each session. For example, when working on threshold runs, I maintained a consistent pace that felt challenging but sustainable, allowing me to build endurance effectively. In contrast, for recovery runs, I slowed down deliberately, knowing these were crucial for muscle repair and preparation for the next hard effort. I also learned the vital role of recovery jogs or rest intervals between reps. Too fast of a jog meant my muscles didn't recover enough to perform optimally in the next rep; too slow, and the training stimulus decreased, reducing the overall benefit. Striking a balance allowed me to sustain quality over the entire workout. Fixing how I approached each rep made every workout count. It wasn't about pushing my ego or trying to run faster than prescribed but respecting the purpose behind each session that accelerated my progress. If you want to maximize the effectiveness of your training, take time before every workout to clarify your goal. Adjust your pace accordingly, and pay attention to your recovery intervals. This mindful approach not only keeps you injury-free but also makes every run a step forward toward your personal best. Run smart, run with intention, and watch your fitness soar.
