At first, racing is not really about winning…👇
it is about learning how to handle the moment.
1️⃣ When the nerves show up
That does not mean something is wrong. It means you care and you are growing.
2️⃣ When the pace feels different
Racing teaches you how to stay calm, trust yourself, and keep moving when it gets uncomfortable.
3️⃣ When the result is not what you wanted
Do not waste the race. Every time you line up, you learn something that helps you next time.
That’s the foundation.
Learn to compete.
Trust the process.
Grow through it.

From my experience running competitively, the biggest lesson I've learned is that racing is truly a journey of personal growth rather than just winning. Those nervous feelings before a race don't indicate failure, but show you genuinely care and want to improve. Embracing nerves rather than fearing them helps me stay mentally prepared and focused. Every race pace can feel different depending on conditions and how your body feels that day. Learning to stay calm and trust your training during these shifts is essential. I remember races where the pace felt uncomfortable, but by trusting my process and focusing on each step, I was able to push through and finish strong. Even if the race day results aren't what you hoped for, every race teaches valuable lessons. I usually reflect on what worked and what didn’t, then adjust my training and mindset accordingly. This approach keeps me motivated and steadily improving. Ultimately, racing builds growth by teaching us how to handle moments that challenge us mentally and physically. It helps us learn to compete with ourselves and trust the process. Running with this foundation changes the experience from pressure to empowerment. So whether you're a youth runner or someone just starting, remember: racing is not about perfection but progress — run like a girl and own every moment!
