Colourpop- I really love all the colourpop single shadows mostly because the formulas are all very creamy. The jelly shadow dries down really nice and you can share it out or build up color. The sticks are super convenient and have great pigment.
E.L.F.- I really love all these shadows, but this one in particular is a really nice glittery topper and is perfect for holidays! It takes a couple of swipes to build up, but I’m OK with that because sometimes I just want a glitter topper.
Maybelline- this shade is absolutely perfect for me. It makes my eyes pop, but it does dry down really fast and sticks. You have to use a cleansing oil or bomb to get this off because make up wipes just don’t cut it.
Ulta- love the Ulta Beauty brand shadows and these ones in particular are super pigmented really easy to travel with and overall have a really nice metallic shimmer to them. This taupey shade is my favorite.
... Read moreHey beauty lovers! 👋 Following up on my initial thoughts about some fantastic single eyeshadows, I wanted to dive even deeper into why these budget-friendly gems are total game-changers and share some extra tips I've picked up along the way. Sometimes, you just need that one perfect shade, right?
Let's talk more about the Colourpop Shadow Stix – specifically shades like Honey BB and Socialite. These aren't just your average stick shadows; their creamy formula makes them incredibly versatile. I love using Honey BB as a quick all-over lid shade for a soft, warm glow, especially on busy mornings. For a more defined, smokey look or even as a creamy liner, Socialite is my go-to. The key to these is working quickly because they do set, but that's also what makes them so long-lasting! I've found they blend beautifully with a brush or even just my fingertip before they dry down. They're definitely among the most pigmented single eyeshadows I own, especially for the price!
Next up, the Ulta Beauty shadows. While I mentioned the metallic shimmer, I have to rave more about their texture, particularly the Ulta Beauty Jelly Eye Shadow in Frosted Givré and the regular Ulta Beauty Eye Shadow in Roaring 20s. These 'bouncy cream' or jelly formulas are a dream to swatch and apply. For the best color payoff, I always use my finger to pat the product onto my lid. It really helps warm up the product and gives that intense metallic pop. Frosted Givré makes for an incredible inner corner highlight or a full lid glitter bomb when I want to feel extra festive. And Roaring 20s? That taupey shade is just perfection for adding depth with a touch of sparkle. If you're wondering how to get those gorgeous swatches you see online, try applying a thin layer, letting it dry for a second, then adding another layer for maximum impact.
My E.L.F. glitter topper (like Pop Off Pink) is another must-have in my collection. Glitter toppers can sometimes feel intimidating, but this one is so easy to use. My trick for making glitter really stick and shine is to apply it over a slightly tacky base—either a cream shadow that hasn't fully dried or a dedicated glitter primer. This helps prevent fallout and amplifies the sparkle. It's truly perfect for those days when you want just a hint of sparkle or to transform a matte look into something dazzling.
And that Maybelline Tattoo shade I mentioned? It's phenomenal for making eyes pop, but as I said, it dries *fast*. A little goes a long way with these long-wear cream shadows. To get the smoothest application, I've found it helps to work on one eye at a time and blend quickly. For removal, seriously, don't skimp on the cleansing oil or balm! It's the only way to get it all off without tugging at your delicate eye area, keeping your skin happy.
Finally, for those of you searching for "clean eyeshadow singles" for "daily crease definition" with a short ingredient list, while the main brands I discussed aren't specifically marketed as "clean beauty," there are fantastic options out there. Look for brands like ILIA, Kosas, or RMS Beauty, which often prioritize shorter, more natural ingredient lists. For crease definition, a soft matte neutral brown is usually ideal. You'd want to pick a single shadow that's easily blendable and not too shimmery. While my picks lean towards sparkle, many of these brands offer excellent matte singles too!
I hope these extra insights help you find your next favorite single shadow! Happy experimenting! ✨
