On my trip to Florida, we stopped in Tarpon Springs! Here, I tried Mama’s. Mama’s is an Authentic Greek Cuisine restaurant. It was very busy, but the staff did amazing at keeping up! The place was decorated so nicely and it was decently sized. The bathrooms were kept clean too!
There were so many choices to choose from! I ended up choosing the Vegetarian Gyro. The tzatziki sauce was so good! Maybe one of the best tzatziki sauces I’ve had. It was packed with veggies & feta cheese blocks too! Feta cheese is my favorite cheese, so I was very excited, haha. My brother got the Chicken Souvlaki as a sandwich and loved it. I think that’s the fastest I’ve ever seen him eat lol.
Overall, this place was amazing and I implore you to check it out!

... Read moreAfter my amazing experience at Mama's, I've been thinking about all the other incredible Greek dishes they offer, and I just had to share more! If you're like me and always on the hunt for authentic Greek flavors, Mama's in Tarpon Springs is a treasure. While I raved about the Vegetarian Gyro in my main post, packed with fresh veggies and generous blocks of my favorite feta cheese, the menu is truly a feast for the eyes and the stomach.
My brother's Chicken Souvlaki sandwich was devoured so quickly, it made me curious about their other souvlaki options. Looking at the menu (and remembering what I saw being served around me!), they offer the Chicken Souvlaki Platter and also Pork Souvlaki Platter, both served open-face with fresh tomato, onion, and that incredible tzatziki sauce. Knowing how tender and flavorful the chicken was, I can only imagine how good the pork version must be! It’s clear they take pride in their grilled meats.
Beyond souvlaki and gyros, Mama's truly represents AUTHENTIC GREEK COOKING. I saw tables enjoying classic dishes like Mousaka, a rich, layered casserole that's a staple of Greek comfort food. I'm definitely planning to try that on my next visit. There were also the famous Dolmades, those delicate stuffed grape leaves, which are always a good indicator of a restaurant's authenticity. If you're into seafood, which Tarpon Springs is known for, I noticed they have some enticing options. While I didn't try it, the menu mentioned platters like charbroiled octopus and pan-fried kalamari.
For those looking for lighter options or appetizers, the Greek Salad looked absolutely vibrant – packed with cucumbers, peppers, onions, olives, and of course, feta cheese, without any lettuce, which is a sign of a truly traditional Greek salad. And for my fellow vegetarians, besides the gyro, they also feature a Falafel Platter served with pita and tzatziki, which sounds absolutely divine.
The atmosphere at Mama's, despite being busy, felt so welcoming and genuinely Greek. The staff were fantastic, and the entire place felt clean and well-maintained. It really added to the dining experience. When you're in Tarpon Springs, this place is a must-visit for anyone craving genuine Greek cuisine. Whether you're looking for a hearty Shish Kabob (they offer lamb, chicken, and pork versions!) or a classic Gyro, Mama's has something to satisfy every craving. It’s more than just a meal; it’s a little taste of Greece right here in Florida, and it left me dreaming of my next visit to explore more of their delicious menu!
