Can't choose an aesthetic... and don't want to!
Hi I'm Maddie and I am a tattoo artist.
I am also a fashion designer and a florist.
Because of everyone's obsession with social media image and aesthetics, I know that choosing one "style" to tattoo and playing into one "aesthetic" for social media would probably make it easier for me to get attention and clients.
But that honestly sounds exhausting.
I love many tattoo styles, I love many aesthetics, I want to have many careers, and I'm not AI. I'm a human being with so many different layers instead of a character with one outstanding trait. I know it might not be that deep to many, but I feel like there is such a lack of genuine content and true personality on the internet now because everyone wants to play a part whether it's "clean girl" or "quiet luxury girl", etc.
I love simplicity, a clean room, clean skincare, and outfit basics! But I also love heavy makeup, over-accessorizing, and crazy statement pieces.
I love fine line tattoos, simple black and grey realism, and traditional lines. But I also love vibrant color tattoos, watercolor style, and large illustrative sleeves!
It just sucks constantly being told to pick one tattoo style, pick one personality, pick one favorite color, pick one aesthetic, when real people outside of the internet aren't like that.
Ever felt like you just can't pick one aesthetic? You're not alone! In a world obsessed with niches and curated online personas, it's easy to feel the pressure to fit into a single box. But what if your true personality is a beautiful, vibrant tapestry of many different styles and passions? As a tattoo artist, fashion designer, and florist, I know this feeling all too well. For a long time, I thought I had to choose. Social media seemed to reward those who stuck to one specific look, one niche, one aesthetic. But honestly, trying to force myself into a single category felt utterly exhausting and, frankly, inauthentic. I love the clean, minimalist vibe, but I also adore heavy makeup and over-accessorizing. My tattoo work ranges from delicate fine line tattoos and classic black and grey realism to bold, colorful illustrative sleeves – yes, even playful pieces like Patrick Star or a dramatic sad clown girl. My style, especially as a tattoo artist in Huntington Beach, CA, is inherently versatile, and I've learned to celebrate that. So, how do you navigate this if you're also a multi-passionate individual who refuses to be confined? Here’s what I’ve learned about embracing every facet of your unique style: First, recognize that your diverse interests are a strength, not a weakness. Your ability to appreciate and create across various styles makes you unique. Instead of trying to streamline, think about how these different elements can complement each other to form your signature blend. My approach to fashion, for instance, often involves combining outfit basics with crazy statement pieces. It’s about building a foundation that allows for diverse expressions. Second, allow yourself to explore without judgment. Don't feel guilty for loving both vibrant color tattoos and simple black and grey designs, or for wanting a clean room and a maximalist art collection. True personality isn't about consistency; it's about authenticity. Your varied interests aren't contradictory; they're just different expressions of a rich inner world. This applies to everything from your home decor to your creative projects. Embrace an eclectic style that genuinely reflects you. Finally, redefine what it means to have an “aesthetic.” Maybe your aesthetic isn't a single defined look, but rather the freedom to express yourself however you feel in the moment. It’s about being genuinely you, not a perfectly packaged character for social media. This might mean your appearance changes daily, your creative projects vary wildly, or your interests seem disconnected to others. That's perfectly okay. It's liberating to break free from the pressure to conform and simply exist as a multi-layered human being. Embracing every one of your styles and passions is a journey, not a destination. It's about celebrating the fullness of who you are, rather than diminishing yourself to fit someone else's idea of what you should be. So, if you can't pick just one aesthetic, congratulations – you're truly owning your unique and wonderful self!
