As an avid reader and Bookstagrammer, I find that celebrating bookish holidays really adds excitement and community connection to my love for reading. For instance, National Book Lovers Day on August 9th is a wonderful opportunity to share your current reads and discover recommendations from others. It’s also a day that reminds us to support local bookstores, especially on Love Your Bookshop Day (August 14th). In September, alongside National Read a Book Day and Buy a Book Day, I've found celebrating author birthdays like Roald Dahl's (September 13) and Stephen King's (September 21) inspires me to revisit some classic works or explore new genres. September 22 is especially charming with multiple overlapping celebrations: Fall in Love with Reading Day, Hobbit Day, and Dear Diary Day, perfect for diving into fantasy or journaling your reading journey. October's National Book Month offers an abundance of chances to engage with literature, from Poetry Day to Teen Read Week and Mystery Series Week. I personally enjoy joining reading groups during this month, sharing insights and expanding my reading list. National Novel Writing Month (NaNoWriMo) in November encourages creativity and challenges readers to become writers themselves. It's thrilling to see how many fellow readers embark on this writing journey. Finally, December's bookish holidays, such as Sherlock Holmes Day and Jane Austen's Birthday, provide nostalgic moments to delve back into beloved classics. I especially appreciate Jolabokaflod on December 24, the Icelandic tradition of a Christmas book flood, which beautifully combines gift-giving with reading. Marking these bookish holidays throughout the year not only enriches my reading experience but also connects me with a vibrant book-loving community worldwide.
