started my day at my favorite pilates studio, which I’m so happy to be back at! then headed back to clean and organize my room. after me and toby headed to the coffee shop (where I work) to hang out with some of my favorite people. I love coming to the shop on my days off because I adore every single one of the people that walk through the door, so its always fun to hangout there. this day one of my friends, and also the person who I got toby from came to visit and also brought toby’s half brother! (they share the same dad) toby however wanted nothing to do with him lol. tobs also took a good long nap while we were there too. Next we went back home to decorate our christmas tree with my family and ended the night with a movie and popcorn!
... Read moreIt’s so great to be home for break, isn't it? My recent day was a perfect mix of my favorite things, and it really got me thinking about how we college students can make the most of our time away from campus. It’s not just about catching up on sleep (though that’s vital!), but also about truly recharging our batteries, both mentally and physically, and getting ready for the next semester. This unique window away from academic pressures is perfect for rediscovering simple joys.
One thing I always try to do, like my invigorating 'pilates' session, is to keep up with my fitness routine. Whether it's heading to an 'EXO pulates' class, going for a brisk winter run, or even just taking long walks with your pet, staying active really helps clear my head and keeps my energy levels up. It’s easy to fall into a slump during break, especially with holiday treats around, so finding a workout you genuinely enjoy is key. Plus, it's a fantastic stress reliever before heading back to the grind of classes and exams.
Another big part of my break experience is reconnecting with my local community and friends. My coffee shop job is a perfect example of this – I get to see so many familiar faces, catch up with my colleagues, and even meet new people. If you don’t work, maybe find a cozy 'coffee shop' spot in your hometown to meet up with old high school friends or just enjoy some quiet time reading and people-watching. Exploring local shops or parks can also be a fun way to experience your hometown with a fresh perspective. It’s a nice change of pace from campus life and helps you appreciate your roots.
And of course, family time! Being able to 'decorate the tree!' with my family, especially during the holidays, is something I truly cherish. These moments, whether it's movie night with popcorn, baking cookies, or just chatting over dinner, really ground me. It’s a beautiful reminder of the unwavering support system I have back home. Don't forget to spend quality time with your pets too – my dog Toby absolutely loves having me home and gets extra cuddles! These connections are so important for our well-being.
Finally, I always try to use some of my break for personal organization and a bit of light planning. My room can get a bit chaotic during the semester with textbooks and assignments, so taking the time to 'organize my room' makes a huge difference. Decluttering my space helps declutter my mind. It feels so good to prepare for the new year, perhaps even reviewing my notes from last semester or doing a bit of light reading for upcoming courses. It's not the most exciting part of break, but trust me, you'll thank yourself later when you're back at school feeling fresh and ready, not overwhelmed.
Making the most of your college break means finding a thoughtful balance between relaxation, social interaction, and a touch of productivity. It’s your time to reset, rejuvenate, and reconnect before diving back into university life, so make it count!
