how i stay close to my ldbf from a college student

leaving your friends for college is honestly one of the most challenging things of growing up. as much as I was excited to leave for the city I was so sad that I had to leave my friends. as everyone i’m sure has felt this feeling.

its also super stressful when you don’t know if you guys will stay in contact or be as close as you used to be when you come back.

HOWEVER there are ways to stay close and if you want a success story my friends and I have become even closer since i’ve left for school and let me tell you these are tried and true methods.

1) snapchat group chat

super simple and easy but this way you can send pictures and videos throughout your day. almost everyone has a gc so this isn’t group breaking really but always try to keep your people updated with what’s going on. personally i’m constantly texting my friends from how my coffee tasted to my latest crash out. it’s like therapy tbh.

2) study sessions

we’ve been doing tons of these lately, especially since it was just midterm week. we all get on facetime and work on all of our assignments. it’s just nice to have your friends there as a silent buffer between focusing on assignments and scrolling through tiktok.

3) plan future events

this is so fun especially since you can have something to look forward to when you’re having a particularly hard day. we just finished planning/making our summer bucket list and we are constantly talking about what we’re gonna do and how much fun we’re going to have. we’ve also been trying to make plans for a florida trip so it’s just nice to have those things to plan and look forward to.

4) Facetime Calls

omg we are CONSTANTLY on facetime. there’s been multiple times when i’ve been on a call with one of them all day. from the time we woke up to the time we went to sleep. is this a little crazy? potentially. but this is single handedly the way we’ve stayed super close and engaged in each others lives. for example i’m on spring break right now and when I saw my friends again it was like we just saw each other, no time had passed and we just went right back into our routines.

if you take anything from this post let it be that a) you have to put in the effort to stay close, b) facetime calls will be your absolute best friend for staying connected.

... Read moreMaintaining strong friendships in college can be challenging, especially when distance separates you and your best friends. Here are some practical tips to keep those relationships thriving: 1. **Utilize Social Media:** Apps like Snapchat and Instagram are great for sharing daily moments. Create a group chat where you can share highlights of your day and support each other by commenting on posts. 2. **Weekly Group Video Calls:** Set a regular schedule for video calls with your friends. This not only helps maintain engagement but also creates a routine that everyone can look forward to. You can play games or just catch up on life. 3. **Create a Shared Calendar:** Use digital calendars to plan visits or coordinate events. Mark important dates, like birthdays or holidays, to ensure you don’t miss any milestone in each other's lives. 4. **Plan Future Trips Together:** Having something to look forward to can strengthen your bond. Discuss potential vacations or weekend getaways you can go on together, as planning can renew excitement in your friendship. 5. **Send Care Packages:** Small, thoughtful gifts or letters can go a long way in showing your friends you care. Surprise them with a package containing their favorite snacks or a handwritten note. By using these methods and continuing to invest time into your friendships, you can significantly reduce the feeling of distance, making it easier to stay close during college years.
