Struggles with Prayer and Overthinking.

I have a tendency to overthink things. I could simply say “Hi” instead of “Hello” and think about it for a week. I fail to be present because my mind is in the past.

I also have a tendency to overthink my prayers. That they aren’t good enough. That God won’t hear me. I think about praying in front of others and I get scared. I think about it’ll they’ll judge me for what I say or don’t say.

But I’m here to tell you, pray on it. No matter what. Pray with people. Pray for people. Pray for you. Pray for your family. Pray for your Spouse. Never stop praying. God will never forget you. God will never not hear you. He hears you, He sees you. God will never judge you. And that’s something I’ve come to understand. I cannot be afraid to pray. Satan wants me to overthink. And I will not let him win. I will continue to pray. Even when in doubt, pray. Nobody is judging me. Nobody is judging you. Your prayers are great in the eyes of the King.

God will never not answer your prayers. Even if Hes working on another Miracle in someone else’s life right now, He is coming. God is never late.

... Read moreIt's so easy to get caught up in our own heads, isn't it? I know firsthand how debilitating overthinking can be, especially when it seeps into something as profoundly personal as our prayer life. For a long time, I found myself paralyzed by the thought, 'Are my prayers good enough?' or 'What if God doesn't hear me?' This internal battle often led me to hesitate, to doubt, and sometimes, to avoid praying altogether, fearful of judgment or inadequacy. But through my journey, I've come to understand a liberating truth: God isn't looking for perfect prayers; He's looking for a sincere heart. The phrase, 'Pray about it as much as you think about it,' really hit home for me. It’s a simple yet profound reminder that instead of letting worries spiral, we can channel that mental energy into conversation with the One who truly cares. When anxiety or fear creeps in, turning those thoughts into spoken or silent prayers can be incredibly transformative. It shifts our focus from our limitations to God's boundless power. If you, like me, struggle with prayer when anxious or overthinking, remember this: your prayers are heard. God doesn't judge the eloquence of your words or the length of your prayer. He hears the longing of your heart. Sometimes, a simple, 'God, I'm scared,' or 'Lord, I'm so overwhelmed right now,' is the most powerful prayer you can offer. I've found it helpful to think about practical ways to pray when my mind is racing: Start small: Don't feel pressured to pray for an hour. Just a few minutes of honest communication can make a difference. Pray out loud: Sometimes hearing your own voice can ground you and make your prayers feel more real. Journal your prayers: Writing down your thoughts and concerns to God can help untangle the knots in your mind. This is especially useful for those 'prayer when anxious' moments. Lean on Scripture: When words fail, turn to Bible verses for anxiety and overthinking. Passages like Philippians 4:6-7, 'Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus,' have been a lifeline for me. Meditating on these truths can reframe your perspective. Pray for peace and sleep: If overthinking keeps you awake, specific prayers for sleep and peace can invite God's calm into your night. Remember, prayer isn't just about asking; it's about connecting. It's our direct line to divine wisdom and comfort. When the enemy tries to tell you your prayers aren't good enough, or that God isn't listening, recognize that as spiritual warfare. That's when you double down and pray even harder. God is closer than you think, always ready to listen, and always working things out for your good. Never stop praying, because truly, God is never late, and He will always meet you where you are.
