I really thought this was going to be blue!!! But it’s okay that it’s not because then that means no fake blue dye right?! 🫐
The taste of this one is super sweet, maybe too sweet for my liking! It’s fun but not one I’d reach for first. I do like it more than the cola flavors though!
... Read moreOkay, so let's talk about the *Wild Berry Poppi*! When I first grabbed that can, I was immediately drawn to its gorgeous teal blue can with those vibrant berry illustrations. Honestly, I totally thought the actual drink inside would be blue too! Call me naive, but the packaging just gives off such a cool, refreshing, blue-hued vibe. So, imagine my surprise when I poured it over ice, and out came this beautiful, bubbly red drink! I had to laugh a little, but then I thought, "Hey, at least there's no weird fake blue dye in here," which is definitely a plus in my book. It’s funny how marketing can set up certain expectations, isn’t it?
Beyond the color surprise, the taste is really where it's at. My first sip of this Wild Berry Prebiotic Soda was, for lack of a better word, *sweet*. Like, super sweet. It's got a definite berry punch, but it leans heavily into a candied berry flavor rather than a tart, fresh one. For some, this might be exactly what they're looking for – a fun, fruity, and sweet treat that feels a bit indulgent. However, for my personal preference, it was almost too sweet to be a regular go-to. I found myself reaching for more ice to dilute it slightly, and a squeeze of fresh lime juice actually helped cut through that sweetness beautifully, adding a zesty kick that really elevated the berry notes.
Even though it was sweet, I still found it quite enjoyable, especially compared to some of Poppi's other flavors. I’m not a huge fan of the cola-inspired Poppi sodas, so this wild berry option was a welcome change of pace. It's definitely a 'fun' drink, perfect for a sunny afternoon or when you want something a bit different than plain water or traditional soda. The fizz is fantastic, giving it that satisfying soda feel without the guilt.
Speaking of guilt, one thing I always look at with Poppi is the sugar content. The can clearly states 5g Sugar, which for a soda alternative is pretty good! It’s one of the reasons I gravitate towards prebiotic sodas – they offer a similar experience to regular soda but with added gut-health benefits and often a much lower sugar count. For someone trying to cut down on high-sugar drinks, this is a great compromise, even if the sweetness level is high for a 'healthier' option. The prebiotics are a nice bonus, though I mostly drink Poppi for the taste and the fun of it.
So, would I buy the Wild Berry Poppi again? Probably for a change of pace or if I'm in the mood for something really sweet and fruity. It’s not my absolute top pick from the Poppi lineup, but it’s far from the worst. If you're someone who loves very sweet berry flavors and appreciates the aesthetic of a blue can of Wild Berry Prebiotic Soda – even if the drink itself is red – then you should definitely give this one a try! Just be prepared for a vibrant red pour and a sweet, bubbly experience. It’s all part of the Poppi adventure!
