... Read moreOkay, let's be real. The 'clean girl aesthetic' has been absolutely everywhere, dominating our feeds with its minimalist, dewy charm. But what if you’re like me, and sometimes you just crave a bit more drama, a bolder statement, or simply want to explore makeup beyond that one specific look? That’s where the whole 'anti-clean girl makeup' vibe comes in, and trust me, you don't have to ditch your clean beauty principles to embrace it! I often hear people think 'clean makeup' automatically means super natural, barely-there looks. But my journey with brands like Gen See has shown me that’s just not true. You can totally go for a more expressive, fun, or even edgy look while still using products that are mindful of their ingredients. Take, for instance, the Gen See Spectator Sport Mascara I tried. While some 'clean girl' looks prefer a very separated, natural lash, this mascara actually delivered some serious oomph. I noticed it had a rather 'chunky' consistency, which some might shy away from, but for me, it meant volume! Paired with its 'hourglass shap' wand, it really coats each lash, making them look fuller and more dramatic – perfect for when you want your eyes to truly pop, rather than just look subtly defined. And honestly, knowing how it wears 'throughout the day' gives me confidence for a bolder eye look that lasts. Then there's the Cruise Liner eyeliner. While I didn’t go into super intricate details in my initial review, a clean eyeliner like this is your secret weapon for venturing beyond the 'clean girl' norm. Think sharp cat eyes, graphic liner designs, or even a smudged, smoky effect for a night out. These are all looks that instantly say 'anti-clean girl' but can be achieved just as beautifully with a conscientiously formulated product. It’s all about how you apply it and the vision you have. And let’s not forget the Pick Me Up Lip Matte Lipstick in 'Shade Rosie'. My initial thought was just how 'super pretty and it's super soft' it was, which is amazing for comfort. But a matte lip, especially in a lovely shade like Rosie, can easily shift an entire look. Instead of a glossy, barely-there tint often associated with the 'clean girl' aesthetic, a well-chosen matte lipstick adds a sophisticated, intentional finish that stands out. You can even layer it for more intensity or blot it for a softer, stained effect that’s still far from a simple clear gloss. So, for anyone feeling like 'clean beauty' boxes you into one aesthetic, I encourage you to rethink. The true spirit of 'anti-clean girl makeup' isn't about rejecting clean products; it's about embracing individuality and creativity. It's about using makeup as a tool for self-expression, whether that means a full-glam moment or a subtly rebellious twist on the everyday. Clean formulas are just the bonus that makes you feel good about what you're putting on your skin. Don't let trends dictate your style; let your makeup reflect *you*.

Emo clean girl makeup roasted by Vella
What went wrong here? - Lashes are clumping. - Skin texture isn’t fully even. - Edges are blended rather than crisp. - Brows lack defined framing. What to do instead: Separate lashes and density, then use careful mascara technique. #emo #cleangirlmakeup #cleangirlstyle #vellastu
