Things in our Homeschool That Just Make Sense🥹✍🏾

I started Mindful Me because I wanted to add something more meaningful to our homeschool journey 🥹

Yes, reading, math, science, and history matter but so do things like understanding emotions, handling disagreements, showing empathy, and learning how to respond when life feels overwhelming.

During our lessons, just getting my kids to open up and talk about different things and hearing how their little minds process the world showed me how valuable this subject I created really is.

Mindful Me is something I created to intentionally teach emotional intelligence, social awareness, boundaries, and real-life problem solving alongside our regular academics.

One thing I love most about it is that we don’t have to wait for situations to happen organically. We can sit down, learn, and talk about these things ahead of time so we’re all growing and learning together.

So many moms in my Facebook homeschool groups wanted to know more about this subject, so I decided to start sharing it here too.

I’ve also noticed that many parents who want to homeschool feel overwhelmed trying to figure out where to start or how to structure everything.

That’s actually one of the reasons I created Homeschool Made Clear to help families confidently start and organize their homeschool.

I’ll also be listing my Mindful Me lessons with resources on my Etsy shop soon.

If you’re just starting your homeschool journey and feeling overwhelmed, I offer free guidance for families who need help getting started.

Since lemon8 doesn’t allow links right now, you can message me and I’ll send the information💓

... Read moreIn my homeschooling experience, integrating emotional intelligence and social skills into the curriculum has been a game changer. Traditional homeschooling often focuses heavily on core academic subjects like math, reading, and science, but I realized early on that children also need intentional guidance to understand themselves and their emotions to thrive. This is exactly why I developed the Mindful Me lessons. What I love about this approach is that it provides structured opportunities for kids to talk about their feelings, think critically about social situations, and practice empathy — all essential skills not typically covered by standard curricula. For example, lessons on "Controlling My Reactions" help children learn how to manage overwhelming emotions, while units like "Safe vs Unsafe Behaviors" equip them to identify boundaries and personal safety in everyday life. One practical benefit I’ve noticed is how these intentional conversations prevent crises before they arise. Instead of waiting for natural conflicts to occur and then reacting, we prepare children proactively. This has reduced stress for both my kids and me. Additionally, creating a dedicated subject for emotional learning makes it feel as important as academics, reinforcing to children that understanding themselves and others is a key part of education. For families new to homeschooling, I understand the overwhelm that can come with trying to build a well-rounded curriculum. That’s why I also created Homeschool Made Clear — a guide that helps parents confidently get started and find a structure that works for their family’s unique needs. Starting with emotional intelligence alongside academics lays a strong foundation for lifelong learning and social interaction. Soon, I will be offering Mindful Me lessons and resources on my Etsy shop to make this approach accessible to more families. I encourage any homeschool parents feeling uncertain or looking for ways to enrich their teaching to reach out. Having support and clear guidance can make the homeschooling journey feel less daunting and more rewarding. Ultimately, blending traditional academics with mindful emotional and social education creates a more holistic homeschool experience. It empowers children not only to excel academically but also to become self-aware, empathetic, and resilient individuals ready to face the complexities of life.
