Work Fits— for my Texas girlies🥵
It’s so hot outside…
When the temps average in the 100’s, it makes it really tough for us Texas women who work in business.
I work in sales and the heat is REAL!
Layering is such a stunning way to up your game, but how in this crazy heat?
I’ll tell you how:
1) sleeveless tops: if work allows it, wear a mock neck sleeveless top. No sweat stains and the mock neck makes it chic!
2) layer with light-weight fabrics: linen, cotton, chiffon… all of these are super breezy!
3) avoid tight sleeves: I love layering with sleeves, but I always make sure the arm-pit and wrists aren’t tight! This cuts off air flow and makes you hotter, creating sweat stains😳
Living and working in Texas means constantly battling the heat, especially when you need to maintain a business casual look. It’s a genuine challenge to stay professional without feeling like you’re melting! Over the years, I've picked up some tricks that make a huge difference, helping me stay cool, comfortable, and still totally put-together. First off, let's talk about those essential fabrics. Beyond linen, cotton, and chiffon, which are fantastic, consider materials like Tencel, modal, and rayon. These are incredibly soft, breathable, and often have a lovely drape that looks very polished. Tencel, for instance, is known for its moisture-wicking properties, making it a superstar for humid Texas days. I've found that investing in blouses and wide-leg pants made from these blends keeps me feeling fresh from morning meetings to evening commutes. When it comes to specific pieces, wide-leg pants are a game-changer, as seen in some of my favorite outfits. They offer fantastic airflow compared to skinny or straight-leg trousers, which can cling uncomfortably in the heat. Look for pairs in light colors or even a soft pattern to add interest. Pair them with a sleeveless mock neck top – a combo that’s both chic and incredibly practical. The mock neck instantly elevates the look, making it suitable for many business casual environments, while the sleeveless design keeps you from overheating. Don't be afraid to add a 'pop of color' with a vibrant top in a primary hue; it can really brighten up your outfit and your mood without adding any extra warmth. Layering might seem counterintuitive in extreme heat, but it’s all about how you layer. Instead of heavy blazers, opt for a lightweight linen cardigan or an unlined blazer made from a breathable cotton blend. A light blue button-down shirt, loosely draped over a sleeveless top, can provide coverage in air-conditioned offices and be easily removed when you step outside. I love a good balloon sleeve blouse too; the volume often means better airflow around your arms, and they look incredibly stylish. Just ensure the fabric is light and airy, not heavy and restrictive. Footwear also plays a crucial role. Closed-toe shoes can feel stifling. Instead, I often reach for elegant open-toed heels, sophisticated sling-backs, or chic flat sandals (if appropriate for your workplace). The goal is to keep your feet as cool as possible while maintaining a professional appearance. Accessories should be minimal – think delicate necklaces, small hoop earrings, and a practical tote bag rather than anything heavy or restrictive. And don't forget the power of a good hairstyle to keep hair off your neck, like a sleek bun or a polished ponytail. By focusing on breathable fabrics, strategic silhouettes like wide-leg pants and balloon sleeves, and smart layering, you can absolutely conquer the Texas heat while looking effortlessly business casual.
