Thoughts on Roans controversial take on parenthood

Singer Chappell Roan Called Out For Saying All Her Friends With Children 'Are In Hell' “I literally have not met anyone who's happy,"

While yes she’s entitled to her own opinion, mothers and parents in general have a right to be upset by this statement.

Parenthood is not for everyone, we all know that by now. But in the big ‘25 we as a society should work towards ending the normalization of moms (or dads) doing everything on their own, not demonizing parenthood as “hell” or “miserable”.

I for one can say becoming a mom has been the best thing to ever happen to me and I’m forever grateful for this opportunity!

Thoughts? Opinions?

P.s this is in no way meant to shame child free people at all! This is not a safe space to hate on child free people or couples!

Many parents reacted strongly, emphasizing the complexity of the parenting experience. While it’s essential to acknowledge that parenthood isn't suited for everyone, it also brings immense joy and fulfillment to many. The challenge lies in dismantling the stigmas that suggest parents should endure hardship in silence. Societal expectations often place undue pressure on parents, reinforcing the idea they must handle everything independently. As conversations around parenthood evolve, it is crucial to foster environments that support parents, rather than labeling their experiences negatively. Supporting proper mental health resources, community outreach, and open dialogues about the struggles and triumphs of parenting can create a healthier perspective. Parenthood can indeed challenge one's happiness, but it is vital to also highlight the joy, love, and satisfaction many find in raising children. Ultimately, we must create a balanced narrative that acknowledges both the hardships and the fulfilling aspects of parenting, fostering understanding and respect among differing viewpoints.

The parents who are happy being parents aren’t upset by her words at all because we know they don’t apply to us. It’s really funny watching all the people she is talking about crash out though and swear they aren’t miserable. As if we don’t all see the way they treat their kids and how unhappy they are.

Idk I think some people aren’t understanding that it’s not necessarily a jab at parents or having kids in general. But, especially in the US, being a parent can be extremely isolating, we have very little support, childcare costs are absolutely insane, and oftentimes women are the ones doing almost all of the domestic and emotional labor in addition to also having to work full time and pay bills. The children themselves are amazing! But all the other things that go along with it is what drains people. Idk that’s just how I interpreted it. To me it was more of an observation on society in general towards parents. But if it truly upset people by what she said, I think that speaks more to how they view themselves than how it applies to her 🤷🏼‍♀️
