Tips for running a Half Marathon

I love running!! 🏃🏼‍♀️

Here are some things I wish I knew when training for my first half marathon ✨

1. Set a realistic goal - everyone’s fitness level is different. Set a goal pace based off your current level and you can only go up from there!

2. Gradually increase mileage - be careful not to start off with too many miles/week. Allow your body to get used to the motion to prevent any injuries!

3. Fuel your body - this one is HUGE! Your body is burning so many calories with distance running. Be sure to increase your carbohydrates and protein to support muscle recovery and energy levels.

4. Stay hydrated - another important one! Running sure does make you sweaty. Be sure to drink plenty of water to stay hydrated and replenish your body.

5. Reward yourself - training for a half marathon is not easy! Make incentives each week or allow a cheat meal after your longest run of the week :) training is hard but it can be fun!

6. Listen to your body - No one is perfect. It’s okay to take days off or cut out an extra mile if you’re not feeling 100%. Don’t get down!!

... Read morePreparing for a half marathon can be an exhilarating journey, especially for beginners. It's crucial to start with a solid training plan that gradually builds your endurance. Many runners overlook the importance of rest days; however, these are just as essential as training days to prevent burnout and injuries. In addition to pacing your runs, consider incorporating cross-training activities like cycling, swimming, or yoga to strengthen different muscle groups and improve flexibility. Nutrition plays a vital role in your performance—optimal carbohydrate intake is necessary to fuel your runs effectively. A well-balanced diet, rich in fruits, vegetables, and lean proteins, will enhance your recovery and energy levels. Stay attuned to your body's signals; if you experience pain or fatigue, it's okay to scale back. Remember, every runner’s journey is unique, and celebrating small victories along the way can provide motivation. Joining a running community or group can also offer support and encouragement. Whether you’re chasing a personal best or completing your first half marathon, enjoy the process and the sense of achievement it brings.

If you’re struggling to run a mile, here are some things I that helped me when I started: 1. Run slow! Too many people try and run at a pace where they cannot breathe, this is a poor way to build up endurance if you plan on running long distance. 2. Aim for time not distance. When I started b

Half Marathon Training Plan
Last week I ran my first half marathon in almost 2 years!! I had taken a break from longer distances and stuck to 5 and 10Ks for a while since that’s what I enjoy most! But training for this half helped me get motivated to do longer runs and actually ignited a new love for longer (for me) runs!
