Things to NEVER do on a date ❌

I’ve been there, and through some cringeworthy moments and a few successes, I’ve definitely picked up on the key 'dos and don'ts' that can make or break an evening. While my original post highlighted some absolute no-nos, I wanted to dive a little deeper into why these things are so important to avoid, and what you can do instead to ensure a smoother, more enjoyable experience for both of you. First up, let’s talk about excessive phone use. It's so easy to get caught up in our digital worlds, but trust me, nothing screams 'I'm not interested' louder than constantly checking your phone during a date. I once went on a date where the person was texting someone else almost the entire time – it felt so disrespectful! Instead, try to keep your phone tucked away. Show genuine interest by making eye contact, actively listening, and engaging in the conversation. If you absolutely must check something urgent, politely excuse yourself for a moment. It shows respect for their time and presence. Another biggie (and something I learned the hard way) is discussing ex-partners. It's tempting to bring up past relationships, especially if you're trying to explain something about yourself or your dating history. However, a first date is really about getting to know *each other*, not your previous partners. It can make things awkward, or worse, make your date feel like they're being compared. Focus on positive topics, shared interests, and what you're looking forward to. Save the deeper, more sensitive conversations for when you've established a stronger connection. Then there's the delicate matter of pressuring a partner, especially on a first date. This could be anything from pushing for another date too aggressively to making assumptions about physical intimacy. Everyone has different comfort levels, and respecting boundaries is paramount. Let the conversation flow naturally, and if there's a spark, it will be evident without any undue pressure. My advice? Keep it light, be observant of their cues, and ensure they feel comfortable and respected throughout the evening. Consent and comfort are key for a good foundation. Lastly, and this one might seem obvious but it happens: inviting others to join your date. A first date is typically meant for two people to connect one-on-one. Bringing friends or family along, even if they're lovely, completely changes the dynamic and can make your date feel unimportant or like an afterthought. If you really want them to meet your friends, save it for a later hang-out. The goal of a first date is to focus solely on each other and see if there's a connection worth exploring further. Beyond these, remember to always be yourself, be polite, and have fun! A little preparation and awareness of these common pitfalls can go a long way in making your dating life more successful and enjoyable.
