My morning as a cheer mom
What my morning as a cheer mom looks like before leaving for the weekend for cheer competition 🩵 #cheermom #cheercompweekend #allstarcheer #fyp #cheerleader
It's not just a sport; it's a lifestyle! Every cheer mom knows the unique blend of excitement, nerves, and sheer dedication that comes with competition weekend. My daughter and I have our routine down to a science, but trust me, it’s been a journey to get there! When I talk about 'my morning,' it really kicks off the night before. The evening before is all about meticulous packing. We lay out her uniform, making sure every rhinestone is intact and every bow is perfectly fluffed. Hair products, makeup kits, extra bobby pins (you can never have enough!), safety pins, and her essential 'cheer bag' are all organized. We double-check her shoes, practice socks, and even her emergency kit with pain relievers, band-aids, and a tiny sewing kit for any last-minute uniform mishaps. This pre-bedtime ritual helps us both feel prepared and calms those pre-competition jitters. We also talk through her routine one last time, focusing on confidence and teamwork. Then, the alarm clock goes off way earlier than I’d like on a Saturday morning! But the energy in the house is electric. First up, a quick but nutritious breakfast – usually something easy like oatmeal or a smoothie bowl to give her sustained energy without feeling too heavy. Hydration is key, so we make sure her water bottle is filled and ready. Next comes the cheer-specific glam. Hair is usually pulled into a super tight, sleek ponytail or bun, often with a generous amount of hairspray and gel to withstand all the flips and tumbles. Then, the competition makeup. It’s usually bolder than everyday makeup, designed to pop under stage lights – bright eyeshadows, eyeliner, and sometimes glitter. This is often a fun bonding moment for us; she’ll tell me exactly how she wants her winged liner, and I’ll try my best to replicate what her coaches taught her! Once her uniform is on, we do a full head-to-toe check. Is her bow perfectly centered? Are her shoes tied tightly? Does she have her team jacket and warm-ups for arrival? We usually do a few stretches together and a mental run-through of her routine. I give her a big hug and a pep talk, reminding her to have fun, trust her teammates, and shine bright. The drive to the venue is filled with her favorite pump-up music. We chat about her excitement, any last-minute nerves, and I always remind her that her best is always good enough. Arriving at the competition and seeing all the other cheer families is a community experience in itself. It's a whirlwind of energy, glitter, and encouraging shouts. For any other cheer moms out there, my biggest tips are: Create a Checklist: It saves so much stress. From uniform pieces to snacks, having a list ensures nothing is forgotten. Pack Smart Snacks: Think protein bars, fruit, and plenty of water. Keep energy levels up throughout the long day. Emergency Kit is a Must: You never know when you’ll need a safety pin, hair tie, or a band-aid. Embrace the Chaos: It can be hectic, but those moments of getting ready with your daughter are truly special. Focus on the Experience: Win or lose, the memories you make, the growth you witness, and the bond you share are what truly matter. Being a cheer mom is a commitment, but watching my daughter perform with passion and confidence makes every early morning and every bit of prep absolutely worth it. It’s more than just a competition; it’s about building character, teamwork, and unforgettable mother-daughter moments.
