Points for funny banter and making the main characters both struggle with trust issues, I feel like that is more relatable than most stories. Where points lacked is because nothing stood out that made me obsessed I like king of wrath and king of greed more not sure why just more substance I guess or drama.
This book was beautiful though. The male main character (Xavier) could inherit billions or nothing if he doesn’t take a ceo position (per dad’s will states). The female main character (Sloane) is the publicist to this guy and has helped him through his party stage and struggles, but this is a bigger battle. It’s unfinished business with a passed away father. There’s only so much she can do. Not only is Sloane juggling her job but her personal life is also blowing up. Sloane’s family made her an outcast years prior. She’s not supposed to contact any family, but she can’t help herself when her baby sister who has health issues needs her big sister. She sneaks over to make visits, but does everything she can to not get caught, until she is. I am not going to give away Sloane’s family drama because it’s so insane you will want that shock factor.
The story features fan favorite tropes like grumpy sunshine. I can’t wait for this author to come out with more books!! I have read almost all of her books and I’m always obsessed, currently on the “if we series”
... Read moreOkay, fellow bookworms, let's dive deeper into Ana Huang's 'King of Sloth' because there's so much to unpack! After my initial review, I've had so many thoughts swirling about Sloane and Xavier, and honestly, this book has really stuck with me since I finished it. It's truly a roller coaster of emotions and intricate plotlines that makes you think long after the last page.
First off, let's talk about Sloane, because she's more than just Xavier's publicist; she's an incredibly complex character battling so much behind the scenes. Her family drama? Absolutely wild! The initial review hinted at it, but it's truly a central conflict that makes her so relatable and human. Dealing with her estranged family while trying to keep Xavier's life (and career) together? It’s a lot, and you feel every bit of her struggle, especially her fierce need to protect her baby sister. Her trust issues felt so real, not just a convenient plot device, and it’s a big reason why I connected with her so deeply.
And then there's Xavier. Their dynamic is the quintessential grumpy/sunshine trope, but with a delicious twist of 'forbidden' connection as her client. Many readers, like me, often wonder about the age gap between Sloane and Xavier; while not explicitly a dramatic age difference, their maturity levels and life stages certainly create an interesting power dynamic and tension. Xavier, needing to step up for his inheritance, and Sloane, already shouldering so much responsibility, complement each other in unexpected ways. It makes their journey to trust each other, and eventually give in to their undeniable chemistry, even more compelling, adding layers to their slow-burn romance.
If you’re new to Ana Huang, or even if you're a seasoned reader like me (I've devoured almost all her books!), 'King of Sloth' definitely carries her signature touch. She excels at crafting these intense, high-stakes romances with morally gray heroes and strong, resilient heroines. Similar to 'King of Wrath' and 'King of Greed,' you get that perfect blend of corporate intrigue, raw emotion, and absolutely steamy moments. Her 'If We Series' also showcases her ability to create interconnected worlds and characters you can't help but root for. For those searching for 'Huan Doerr Sins' (which I suspect might be looking for more dark romance by Ana Huang or similar authors), this book, while perhaps not as dark as some of her other works, definitely delves into the deeper, sometimes darker, aspects of family, power, and personal demons.
Speaking of the book itself, the 'King of Sloth' cover with its elegant pocket watch design is just stunning – it perfectly captures the theme of time, responsibility, and fate that Xavier grapples with throughout the story. And for those curious about my reading experience, yes, I even snapped a picture reading it in my car! It's such a cozy, personal way to dive into a good book, and this one definitely made those moments fly by. This book truly brings together so many compelling elements, making it a must-read for contemporary romance fans.
