“Nothing brings people together better than death”

⭐️Overall rating: 4/5: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Ok this was a good suspense story with a nice twist at the ending. You start off the read with a mother about to pass away, her daughter is with her for her last moments. In those last moments her mother admits, “your father didn’t disappear… don’t trust” and then dies. Some background information: the family’s dad disappeared apparently 10 years prior and caused even more of a rift in the family. These final words lead the children to have the suspicion of their families past. The children go over the will and when the middle sister is left with family videos, she decides she’ll just watch one, but little did she know the video would solve a cold case.

This book started slow but got really good. Definitely didn’t expect the ending twist which was really good. I don’t want to give much away because I think if I was given another hint I could’ve had it all figured out so you will just have to read it but if you loved her other book, the perfect marriage, you will like this! #BookReviews #readreview #lemon8bookclub #booktok #homeiswherethebodiesare #murdermystery #mustread

... Read moreHave you ever picked up a book, hoping it would totally mess with your head in the best way? That's exactly how I felt diving into 'Home is Where the Bodies Are' after finishing it. The whole concept of unraveling family secrets is just so captivating, isn't it? It’s like being a detective alongside the characters, piecing together clues from the past that completely reshape their present. For me, the most gripping part of these kinds of stories is how deeply they explore the bonds—and sometimes the fractures—within a family. The idea that someone's entire life could be built on a hidden truth, only to have it all exposed by a dying whisper or an old family video, is just wild. I find that thrillers centered around estranged family members and long-buried secrets often hit differently. It's not just about solving a crime; it's about understanding the human element behind the deception. When a character uncovers something shocking about their parents or a sibling, it doesn't just solve a mystery; it completely redefines their relationships. This book really nails that feeling, showing how a past event can ripple through generations, causing confusion, anger, and ultimately, a profound shift in how family members view each other. What makes a truly great twist, especially one that impacts a family's history, is how it makes you rethink everything you thought you knew. You're reading along, making your own assumptions, and then BAM! The author throws in something so unexpected that it changes the whole narrative. It’s not just a plot device; it’s an emotional gut punch that leaves you reeling. In books like this, the 'twist' often ties directly into a sense of betrayal or a secret 'love life' (or lack thereof) from the past, which then explains so much about the present dynamic. It's not always romantic love, but the deep, often complicated love and loyalty within a family that gets twisted. The imagery from the book, like that cracked VHS tape representing old family videos, really emphasizes the idea of hidden truths bubbling to the surface. It's a reminder that sometimes the answers to a cold case or a long-standing mystery are right there, waiting to be found in plain sight, perhaps disguised as an innocent family heirloom. The journey of the characters as they grapple with exposed secrets and work towards a solved murder is incredibly practical for anyone who loves a good puzzle. It makes you wonder what secrets might be lurking in your own family tree, doesn't it? These stories serve as a fascinating reminder of how intertwined our lives are with those who came before us, and how a single hidden truth can redefine everything. So, if you're like me and you crave a story that delves into the psychology of family, the weight of secrets, and delivers a truly satisfying, mind-bending twist, then this genre is definitely for you. It's more than just a suspenseful read; it's an exploration of identity, trust, and the often-fragile nature of family bonds.
