This book had so much trauma packed into one story it was insane.
The story starts with two sisters, practicing track outside and then coming in for dinner. We learn the girls donāt have many friends due to their fatherās profession. Their father is a criminal defense attorney, so he gets the most evil of people off death penalty, but doesnāt that mean they are innocent or at least there wasnāt enough evidence to convict?
So towns folk will tell their kids to stay away from these girls because of their dad.
One day when these girls are home with their mother, two men break in and torment the family leaving the girls without a mom and with a ton of trauma.
Flash forward 28 years, and their dad has a case bringing the girls back to the town where their nightmares lie.
Thereās a school shooting case. A girl is claimed to be the shooter, but she has a below average IQ and he genuinely believes sheās guilty. When another accident strikes leaving their father unable to counsel the girl, his daughter must step in his place.
This book was so so so good!
Definitely had some plot twists I was not expecting. Only downside itās SOOOO long so I was intimidated to read it for the longest time. But it collected enough dust on my tbr pile on my bedroom floor, and Iām glad I finally picked it up.
