Unpopular opinion: this book didn’t do it for me🎨📚

⭐️Overall rating: 3/5: ⭐️⭐️⭐️

hello beautiful is a remake of little woman, following 4 sisters; Julia, Sylvia, Emeline, and Cecelia. The four girls grow up with a mom who was never pleased and a father who was their star. Julia and Sylvia are focused on the most in this book, because they go through the most. Julia falls in love with a basketball player named William. William Waters had a tragic childhood in which his parents didn't love him at all. He lived a life of depression, never feeling enough. When he goes to college he meets Julia Padavano and his whole world changes. Julia Padavano is a package deal if William wanted to be part of her life he had to deal with her sisters too, and William has never wanted more than to feel apart of a family. Julia, being the eldest has her entire life planned out with steps. Sylvia is the hopeless romantic that has her nose buried in a book. Cecelia is the creative rebel. And emeline is quiet homebody who has secrets she keeps hidden. He loves these people, he just hopes he doesn’t push them away, because they soon find out he has a darkness that sometimes takes control of him.

⚠️My thought: SPOILERS DONT READ IF YOU DONT WANT TO BE TOLD THINGS THAT HAPPEN IN THE BOOK

The story although beautiful, took forever for me to get into. I felt like I didn’t get enough background into William’s depression and his life growing up I wish I had more of that to understand him even further. Also I’m sorry but if I got divorced and my sister swoops in and starts dating my ex husband…. I don’t know how I would ever be able to forgive her. ESPECIALLY if they end up getting married and didn’t even want to father their child. That had my skin boiling. I wouldn’t feel comfortable either coming home to see my sister and ex husband at holidays. I do like that they make up at the end of the book, but only because Sylvia had cancer, the sisters forgot about Julia in a sense and I just didn’t think it was right at all. I just couldn’t understand how the family was ok with that.

... Read moreIn 'Hello Beautiful,' the narrative intertwines the lives of four sisters—Julia, Sylvia, Emeline, and Cecelia—against the backdrop of familial expectations and personal struggles. The book delves into themes of trauma and mental health, with Julia's love for basketball player William Waters adding layers to the story. As he grapples with a troubled past marked by parental neglect and depression, readers witness his attempts to forge connections with the Padavano family. However, the portrayal of William’s struggle with his dark thoughts and his yearning for acceptance from Julia's family could have been explored in more depth. Understanding the psychological intricacies of his character is crucial for readers to empathize with his journey. Furthermore, the dynamics surrounding Julia’s sister dating her ex-husband raises questions about familial loyalty and forgiveness, particularly in tough situations like divorce and mental illness. The resolution of these conflicts, particularly in light of Sylvia's cancer diagnosis, feels rushed and somewhat unsatisfactory, prompting readers to reconsider the importance of character development and authentic emotional arcs in storytelling. Thus, while 'Hello Beautiful' attempts to cover profound topics such as trauma, it falters in execution, leaving an impression that resonates poorly with some readers.
