Books I’ve read this week and what I rated them📚

Book one: The Play by Elle Kennedy

⭐️Overall rating:4/5: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

•another hockey romance that doesn’t disappoint. Demi gets rid of her cheating ex boyfriend and falls for her new best friend hunter. Hunter lost the frozen four last year so he thinks going celibate will improve his game. Girls are what caused him to lose focus last year. Of course this doesn’t work with Demi in the picture. So good!!! Absolutely love Elle Kennedy books for the quick sexy college aged romance.

Book two: Meet me at the lake by Carley Fortune

⭐️Overall rating: 2/5:⭐️⭐️

•I hate that I don’t love this book. When I read every summer after (book one) I wasn’t in love with the story. The first book I had rated a 3/5. This book I had hoped would be better but it just was a similar plot I found just annoying. Fern was stood up by will 10 years ago, now he’s back to help fix the resort they fell in love at. He comes right when fern has lost her mother due to a car accident, and a lot of emotions are flowing. I just got annoyed with the male character I felt he just always was hurting fern.

Book three: The Gift by Freida McFadden

⭐️Overall rating: 3/5:⭐️⭐️⭐️

This book was short, sweet, and a very fast read. It's Christmas Eve and Stella Hansen is broke. She is so broke that despite working two jobs, she can't even afford a present for her husband on their first Christmas as man and wife. But then a mysterious storekeeper at a pawn shop offers Stella an intriguing trade.Stella wants more than anything to buy her husband the Christmas gift of his dreams. But will it come at a terrible price? It’s like a 50 page mini read and just very predictable. But a good fashion Freida read never disappoints.

Book four: The Final Scene by Steph Nelson

⭐️Overall rating: 3/5:⭐️⭐️⭐️

this book was creepy. An old lady and her accomplice kidnap people in order for her to reenact her childhood. They must follow her rules because if they don’t the collars around their neck will shock them. If they really don’t listen the collars will explode. They play the game in order to survive, but when alerted the final scene is coming… no one is safe and everyone must fight together to figure a way out before the final scene ends. It was predictable at the end like I didn’t get enough dramatic effect. I wanted a complete twist of events but it was easy to figure out.

Book five: Dead Med by Freida McFadden

⭐️Overall rating: 4/5: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

This is my type of Freida read! we hear from each of the med students point of view from the same time line.

One after the other. Each of the main characters story ends with you needing to find out what happened or another piece of information. Then you move on and restart the term and the story is retold but from another characters point of view and find out more secrets and details which then leaves you wanting to know more! One student always died at this med school from the stress due to overdose, but the curse ends with this graduating class.

Book six: The Dare by Elle Kennedy

⭐️Overall rating: 5/5:⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

The Dare is the final book in the Briar U series and it focuses on Connor and Taylor. I absolutely adored them and I loved how their relationship developed throughout the story. Overall this was a fun and easy read. And such a great ending to the Briar U series. I also liked how it touched on body insecurity in college and mean sorority girls because they are around. Absolutely obsessed though could NOT put down.

Book seven: The Couple’s Revenge by Daniel Hurst

⭐️Overall rating: 3/5:⭐️⭐️⭐️

I love this author but I hate to say the story was so good until the last few chapters. Then I immediately knew who the killer was and why. This starts with a boy in school coming home acting weird. He is being bullied and this bully is known around town. This bully was the reason a girl committed suicide years ago and now is bullying again. The parents won’t stand for it and want to seek revenge but will this go too far?

Overall a good reading week!

... Read moreIn this week’s reading roundup, I explored a variety of genres, highlighted by compelling titles from well-known authors. Start with 'The Play' by Elle Kennedy, a delicious blend of hockey romance and the friends-to-lovers trope, scoring a solid 4/5. The characters face relatable challenges around focus and relationships, making it a worthwhile read. Next, ‘Meet Me at the Lake’ by Carley Fortune took a different approach with a second-chance romance, reflecting on themes of loss and emotional recovery. Although rated lower at 2/5, it offers a glimpse into heart-wrenching experiences. Freida McFadden's works, including 'The Gift' and 'Dead Med,' also captivated me. The former provides a touching narrative on love and sacrifice during the holidays, while 'Dead Med' combines suspense and intricate storytelling that keeps readers engrossed. Steph Nelson's 'The Final Scene' adds an unsettling twist with an engaging plot that unsettles the psyche. Moreover, 'The Dare' by Elle Kennedy earns a perfect 5/5 for its engaging portrayal of body insecurity and strong character development within a college setting. Lastly, ‘The Couple’s Revenge’ by Daniel Hurst explores dark themes of bullying and parental reactions, raising crucial questions about morality and justice. Overall, this week showcased a balanced mix of heartwarming and thought-provoking narratives that book enthusiasts will surely appreciate.
