Unpopular opinion: this is my least favorite📚
Ok I love this author and all her work but this book was my least favorite of the entire series. I hate to say that because I’ve been dying to read this book for so long, but it didn’t grip me as much as the rest. Was it still good? Yes! But was it better or as good as her previous books? No.

My opinion:
I just felt like some parts dragged. I think maybe because it was a slow burn I wasn’t ready to slowly dive into the drama. Maybe it’s because I just read a fast paced thriller series but I just wanted more from these characters. Also the name Vuk was just not sexy for me I kept thinking of a buck. If you like a beauty and the beast kind of vibe though, this is for sure your book!

While the book doesn't explicitly focus on a significant age gap, the power imbalance and life experiences between them certainly felt pronounced. Vuk's possessiveness and Ayana's vulnerability, as she navigates her challenging situation, fueled much of the dramatic core. I often wondered if their individual pasts truly set them up for such a slow-burn romance, or if it was the external pressures that kept them apart. Their journey from hesitant glances to undeniable chemistry is what keeps readers invested in 'Vuk and Ayana' as a couple, even if I personally wished for a faster pace. Speaking of immersion, one thing that always enhances my reading experience is a good soundtrack. I was excited to see that there's even an official song, 'Envy (King of Envy)' by Chris Grey, which perfectly captures the mood. Creating a 'King of Envy playlist' can really amplify the atmosphere while you're reading. I imagine tracks that encompass forbidden desire, dark romance, and a bit of mystery – something sultry and intense for Vuk's brooding nature, and perhaps more hopeful, yet still dramatic, for Ayana's journey. Thinking about specific music helps me connect with the characters' emotions, like the longing and internal conflict Ayana feels, or Vuk's protective instincts. It truly makes the world of Ana Huang's book come alive in a different way. Ultimately, while King of Envy had its moments of dragging for me, I can appreciate its unique charm. If you're someone who adores a classic 'beauty and the beast' narrative, where an enigmatic, scarred recluse falls for a strong yet vulnerable woman, then this novel might absolutely be your cup of tea. The intense emotional journey, the slow-burn anticipation, and the high stakes of their secret affair are definitely something to look forward to. I think it’s a book that rewards patience, delving deep into the psychological aspects of love and loyalty. For those who enjoy really savoring a romance and don't mind a gradual build-up, Vuk and Ayana's story could be a truly satisfying read. It’s a different flavor from Ana Huang’s usual, but undeniably captivating for its target audience.
