How did you become confident as a nurse?

Confidence did not come from knowing everything. It came from time at the bedside. It took a full year and a half before I even felt like I understood what was going on at work. Before that, every shift felt overwhelming and unpredictable.

Little by little, through hard shifts, difficult patient interactions, and uncomfortable conversations, something shifted. I started recognizing patterns, trusting my judgment, and realizing I could handle more than I thought. Experience taught me that confidence does not arrive all at once. It grows quietly, built through repetition, persistence, and simply showing up shift after shift.
