Stores Move Too Fast & I’m Still in July, Thanks🫶🏻✨

Hot take: we are SPEEDRUNNING the calendar and I am not okay 😭 Like babe it’s still summer—why am I dodging jack-o-lanterns at Hobby Lobby and getting Christmas whiplash in July???

I love seasonal decor but can we please finish one vibe before hopping to the next??? It’s 100 degrees. It’s July. My bathing suit is still damp. The sun sets at 8:30 and I’m not emotionally ready for seasonal depression lighting at 3PM.

And don’t even get me started on “Summerween” at BBW 😭

🛒 Seen any too-soon seasonal displays lately?? Drop the wildest one you’ve spotted👇🏼

... Read moreRetailers often start seasonal displays early to maximize sales opportunities across multiple holiday seasons. However, this has led to a phenomenon where customers experience what feels like 'holiday whiplash'—encountering Halloween or Christmas items while still in peak summer. For example, Hobby Lobby's early appearance of jack-o-lantern decorations in July surprises many shoppers who feel July's heat and summer ambiance should prevail longer. The shift in retail timing is influenced by various factors including supply chain demands, marketing strategies aiming to extend consumer buying windows, and cultural shifts pushing to embrace holidays earlier each year. While some shoppers appreciate early access to decorations, others feel overwhelmed or disconnected, especially with conflicting seasonal moods like summer's brightness versus fall and winter themes. One part of this trend includes events like 'Summerween' at Bath & Body Works (BBW), blending summer fun with Halloween motifs to keep seasonal interest alive while maintaining a summer vibe. Such marketing blends seasons to appeal to different customer sentiments. Regarding the OCR note about Hobby Lobby's signage reading "VELCONWELCONN blares e," it highlights how store environments amplify these seasonal shifts through prominent visual cues and thematic music, another layer contributing to customers’ sensory experiences of premature seasonal changes. Consumers navigating this speedrun of retail seasons may consider embracing selective shopping—focusing on items truly needed or loved, rather than being swayed by accelerated marketing. Retailers, in turn, might balance commercial needs with consumer emotional readiness, possibly by staging transitions more gradually. Ultimately, this rapid seasonal cycling reflects broader trends in retail marketing but may benefit from reconsidering shopper experiences to foster positive engagement and satisfaction year-round.

I remember working retail and starting to receive Christmas shipments in June. 😂 I'll take the autumn stuff, but come on. Way too early for Christmas, fs.
